I refuse to put this in "Beatnik" because I don't consider it entertainment :p .

So someone on MiceChat posted an image of Kurt Russel on the set of "Poseidon", a remake of "The Poseidon Adventure" due to come out in 2006. Lame, lame, lame. But that's only half of this story.

I saw that and went looking at imdb for info. This is what I found first, instead... http://imdb.com/title/tt0419358/ (http://imdb.com/title/tt0419358/)

Plot Outline: A cruise ship succumbs to a terrorist act and capsizes on New Year's eve. A rag-tag group of survivors, spearheaded by a priest and a homeland security agent, must journey through the upside down vessel and attempt an escape.

You've GOT to be kidding. Absolutely pathetic, even for a TV movie.

And extra points removed for the use of the term "rag-tag..."

Yeah, you've just gotta wonder!

This sucks, but since it's a TV movie I can pretend it doesn't exist :)

Who's doing the cover of Maureen McGovern's "There's Got to be a Morning After"? Blink 182?

Still, when you remake old movies - it's hard to stick with completely unbelievable things like a giant wave that can capsize the Queen Mary. Pulease.

I love the old version, and I think terrorist-attack is beyond stupid. But I can't blame them for trying to come up with some more plausible reason for the entire situation to exist.

Besides, what kind of terrorist attack could flip over the ship?

The kind where the terrorists explode their superfilthydirtybomb in the depths of the Maktiallup Trench off the Azores, thus generating the Super Wave aimed for hurricane-ravaged N'Orleans, but which accidentally capsizes the Poseidon on its cruise to Mexico!!

But it stars Steve Guttenberg!

I wonder if he'll will wear his trademark short shorts and rollerblade through NY city as he did in Can't Stop The Music? That would be sweet.

It also stars a Baldwin brother! I wonder if he will do anything Baldwin-esque? That would be sweet, too.

I always loved all of the old disaster movies, the "Airplane" movies, "Towering Inferno", "Earthquake" (which I saw in Sensurround, ooooooooh), etc... I sure don't think we need to start remaking them all with terrorists though. Lame.

But it stars Steve Guttenberg!

I totally missed that piece of vital information at first glance.

This situation is far worse than I thought it was.

For God's sake, does he play the priest or the Homeland Security agent???

I started to say that Ernest Borgnine was spinning as well. Surprisingly though, he is still around. I was surprised to discover this.

Not only alive but he is still acting and currently filming "Cura del gorilla, La (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000308/) ". :)

He's actually been pretty busy for a man who is 88.

(Sorry for the Borgnine hijack, just can't help myself sometimes)

I always loved all of the old disaster movies, the "Airplane" movies...I think you are thinking of the "AirPORT" movies. Airplane was a spoof of that series and other a host of other things (I just love the prop-driven airplane sound whenever they were shoing people on the jet airplane!).
Shelly Winters then.Nope, still alive. Keep trying.

And why was Kurt Russell on the set? He's not in the movie (at least that I could find). He's not in the made for TV terrorist lameness movie coming November 2005. He's in the 2006 theater release (http://imdb.com/title/tt0409182/)one, title simply "Poseidon". At least that one doesn't involve terrorist, but the only thing worse than a classic movie needlessly being redone is a classic movie needlessly being redone TWICE! It was only while looking up info on the Kurt Russell one that I stumbled across the made for TV one.

Are people in Hollywood that bereft of ideas that they have to recycle ones that weren't that brilliant in the first place? Whatever.

On a side note - Poseidon holds a near and dear place in my heart because it was the cover parody of my very first issue of Mad Magazine:

Nope, still alive. Keep trying.OMG, I was so sure she was dead!

Ok then, Jack Albertson, who will forever be Grandpa Joe in Willy Wonka to me. His role as the patient Jewish grandfather in PA is a joy to watch.

And he really is dead! :p

She's not dead either, just her character from the original! Go to her house in LA and she will answer her own door!

FYI, Adam Baldwin (http://imdb.com/name/nm0000284/) is NOT related to the Baldwin Brothers (Alec, Daniel, Stephen, William/Billy). Some of you might recognize Adam Baldwin from "The X-Files," "Full Metal Jacket," Joss Whedon's TV show "Firefly," or one of my all-time favorite TV shows, "The Cape," a fictional drama about astronauts at NASA.

And, yeah, when was the last time you saw a good movie starring Steve Guttenberg?

ok, wait.... there's the movie and a TV movie?!?!?

Oh my frelling lord. (but I can't tell you how relieved I am that the movie remake is not starring Steve Guttenberg and it not capsizing the ship via terrorist attack)
