So, songs and music typically bring out certain emotions in people. One song has always had an affect on me and that song is "Moon River" sung by Andy Williams. I love the song, Williams has an amazing voice, the music is pure excellence but I just can't figure out why this song has always moved me so.

What songs make you feel some sort of strong emotion? (Be it anger, happyness, sadness, etc.)

Calling all Angels - A Jane Sibery song done by k.d.lang from the Until the End of the World Soundtrack, always puts me at peace.

Many Cole Porter songs will put a smile on my face.

There are so many songs that get to me, I pretty much could have a soundtrack to my life.

But one song that comes to mind is the Neil Diamond/Barbra Striesand 'You Don't Bring Me Flowers'. It is really sad to me.

'On The Street Where You Live' done by Harry Connick, Jr. and I think he covered it from Dean Martin? I have both and I love them. Just puts a happy little kick in my step. For a lot of reasons but I heard it once, also, when I was nearing my moms house, where I grew up. I was happy to be going to see her, that I still have her to go see. I had that feeling they sing about in the song. Ya know?

Crowded House "Don't Dream (It's Over)." I love that song- a perfect mix of new wave and old school, Procul Harum stuff. I want it at my funeral, if I have one.

I love that song. It makes me feel really sappy because it's my parent's wedding song.

I have a lot of songs that bring out strong emotions in me. Most of them remind me of ex's and old friends. The other day an old song by The Escape Club, I'll be there came up in my playlist and I was sobbing because it reminded me of two friends who died 14 years ago. :(

hmm hard to pick just one... but one that always gets me when I am down; "the show must go on" by Queen

I find that almost anything by Rufus Wainwright brings me happiness, as sad as any of it might be, it's something I can truly feel when I'm in a funk. And feeling it is always a good thing. Wanting to burst out of yourself when a song comes on... always a good thing.

For me today, "California" by Rufus Wainwright.

It's totally how I feel.

I just put it on my iTunes, and it sounds different in iTunes than my car. Not better or worse, but different. Hrmmm...

The song that raises my spirits is Light and Day by the Polyphonic Spree.

The one that makes my heart hurt is Total Eclipse of the Heart.

I downloded the light and Day video and watch it everyday. The music and the excitement of the performers never fails.

There are tons and tons of songs that stir my emotions.

Here's one:
"Defying Gravity" from the 'Wicked' Broadway Musical. Idina Menzel hits a note in this song that seems to me to be to be a difficult one and it's so great to hear her nail it. This song really amps me up.

When I can feel a mental cloud lifting, I hear "Here Comes the Sun" in my head. :) Has happened to me since high school....just happened again the other day when I'd gotten something done on the auction after procrastinating forever.

I think that's a great song. Love it.

"Make Your Kind of Music" by Mama Cass does that for me. Ever since I heard it in the film 'Beautiful Thing'.

Claire~ 'Here Comes The Sun' does that for me, as well. Sometimes it is the Beatles version but sometimes it is George Bensons' version. I heard him play it live at the Greek in L.A. and it totally moved me. As if it were a drug working it's way through my system.

oh that song by Gary Jules; Mad World from Donnie Darko makes me feel misty whenever I hear it.

so, whats polyphonic spree?

I just got 2 cd's recently called music for tv dinners, and music for tv dinners the 60's they are great. Its the background music they used for commercials in the 50's and 60's some of these same tracks were used in the Ren and Stimpy show.

Stairway To Heaven - I know it's corny..but it just soothes me and gets me going at the same time!

Home Sweet Home / Motley Crue - Brings back great memories of high school, friends, spending hours riding around in my car, the radio blaring, looking for someone to go to the liquor store for us! Getting drunk, acting crazy, playing volleyball with my best friends from opposite sides of the busiest street in town. Having some guy I just met throw up in the back seat of my car. :( Tears over some jerk who broke my heart. Too many memories...

I'd have to say that might favorite song for stirring an emotional response is Begin the Beguine. I love that song. It's got a great melody, wonderful lyrics, and it's tropical. What more could I ask for?

Two songs that always make me feel sad:

I Can't Make You Love Me - Bonnie Raitt
The song is just so dark and beautiful, especially the vocals and Bruce Hornsby's haunting piano.

Yesterday - The Beatles
Simple brilliance. I'm always moved by it.

Three songs that always make me feel happy:

Spain - Chick Corea (with or without Al Jarreau's incredible vocals)

Lester Leaps in - Charlie Parker
How can you not feel happy hearing Charlie Parker play a sax.

Morning Dance - Spyro Gyra
Like a vacation in the tropics

Ah, favorite songs, where to start? I love so many.

One clear favorite with a heart-felt swoon:"I Loves You, Porgy" from George Gershwin's Porgy and Bess, as sung by Nina Simone (available on The Ultimate Nina Simone (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B0000047FV/qid%3D1105949180/sr%3D11-1/ref%3Dsr%5F11%5F1/103-6929745-6699010)).

For me, it is "For Good". I love that song. My favorite line is:

"So much of me is made of what I learned from you
You'll be with me like a handprint on my heart
And now whatever way our stories end
I know you have re-written mine by being my friend"

This is one of the best statements on how friendship changes our lives.

mamabot - "For Good" - great song

"Sunchyme" by Dario G makes me happy. Always.

"Last Stop" by my boyfriend Dave Matthews and his band makes my blood boil.

"Neither One of Us (Wants to Be The First to Say Goodbye)" by Gladys Knight and the Pips always bums me out.

"Fragile" by Sting always puts me in a relaxed mood.

I just listened to this song. Wow. What a great song. It's mellow yellow, Daddy-O. I like it.

ELO, "Mr. Blue Sky" makes me happy happy, "When Somebody Loved Me", from Toy Story II makes me a bawling wreck. And listening to it with the French audio track on the DVD is practically asking for an aneury - anyueri - stroke.

I love ELO!!! (Got "Turn to Stone" running through my tiny little brain right now). I'm gonna have to burn some of their songs. (Well, Eric will, as I am clueless in that dept. Just had him burn a bunch of Queen songs yesterday).

Which reminds me- Queens 'Sail Away Sweet Sister' (I think that's the title) always makes me sad, but I love it.

Love 'September'.

Another song that I like is "A Roller Skating Jam Called Saturday" by De La Soul. It always cheers me up.

And the title song to 'Grease' the movie. It always makes me happy.

"September" live is absolutly incredible. Last year I saw EWF with Chicago and both bands played on that track. Nothing has come close to those moments.

Blue Monday New Order

Yeah, Here comes the sun. Doo doo doo doo. :) Used it as the recessional (is that the word?) at our wedding. Never fails to cheer me up.

Used the theme from the DiCaprio Romeo + Juliet soundtrack as the processional. It's called Kissing you, and it really moves me.

There are quite a few of Happy Hardcore tracks that get me all amped....Run to me and Sunrize are some prime examples, but there are tons more.

Fiona Apple turns me sultry...I can't help but pout and sing along to most of her stuff.

Now I have September in my head. Or at least, the tune.

<falsetto>
"La de da, da da da remember, la de da, da da da September..." :D

Two songs are like prayers to me:

Hallelujah by Leonard Cohen, sung by anyone, really.

And a song called Waltz sung by Paul Kotheimer.

Another Leonard Cohen song that can actually move me to tears is Famous Blue Raincoat, though I prefer it sung by Tori Amos.

And a lift-me-up song...almost anything by Weezer. They're my happy music.

"September" live is absolutly incredible. Last year I saw EWF with Chicago and both bands played on that track. Nothing has come close to those moments.

I'm not sure if this is considered one of their more popular songs, but Stay The Night by Chicago always makes me feel tingly. I think it's a very sexy song! I love listening to it!

And one of my very all-time favorite songs in the whole wide world is Magnet & Steel. The original by Walter Egan, and the remake by Matthew Sweet are both wonderful. It's the song that makes me swoon. :)

Two songs from my mis-spent youth that still get me:

for sadness -- "Everyone Moves Away" (The Posies)
for raging against The Man -- "Operation: Mindcrime" (Queensryche)
Must.fornicate.now -- "Thunderkiss '65" (Rob Zombie)

Current mood-changers:
wanna prance/glide about my living room -- "Red Right Hand" (Nick Cave)
Must.Dance.Now -- "Pico and Sepulveda" (Lee Press-on version)

The Earth, Wind and Fire bassist scares me.
He's like a fusion of Prince and Danny Glover.

That's Verdine WHite. The guy is a bundle of energy. He was on the ground, leaping from spot to spot and just burned up the Bass.

It went to #16 on the charts if I remember correctly.

Another Leonard Cohen song

Everybody Knows is a great song. I think that's the title. From Pump Up The Volume...

I've spent many Saturday nights over the years working (as a DJ). If I was ever fortunate enough to have "Turn the Page" (by either Bob Seger or Metallica) come on the radio, it made me melancholy. But I had the live version of "The Load Out/Stay" by Jackson Browne come on one night on the way home and it made me all tingly.

Ray Charles' version of "America the Beautiful" makes me weepy and proud.

I love high energy dance music cranked while I am driving. Older or newer - it doesn't matter. I had the remix of "Nasty" by Janet Jackson cranked on the way home this evening. It made me happy (and made me go close to 90).

We have a CD of tribal drumming. It is kept in the bedroom.

I had INXS's Greatest Hits cd blaring on my drive home tonight. (And speeding, too.) I decided they were a very swanky group.
