on a side note, is that a web site you visit frequently? No, a friend just informed me that CNN has it as "breaking news" but that according to BD's site, he passed away on Friday. I assume his family just recently made the news public.

:(

How many afternoons did I while away, shaking my head at Gilligan's idiocy. "If it weren't for him they'd have been off that island ages ago..."

I'll miss him.

I heard something interesting on the radio - a way too deep theory about Gilligan's Island.

The Castaways represent the 7 deadly sins.

Mr. Howell - greed
Ginger - lust
Mrs. Howell - sloth (can't do anything for herself)
Maryanne - envy (always wanted to be Ginger)
Professor - pride (thinks he can do anything)
Skipper - he's special. He's both gluttony and anger

The Island is hell.

Gilligan is Satan, because when anyone tries to leave, he screws it up and they have to stay.

Earlier this year, I appeared in a production of Gilligan's Island-The Musical. (I played The Skipper.) So, for a while there, I was thinking about this show an awful lot. I always found the writing and vaudeville humor awfully stupid and predictable, but the cast were so perfect, they made it all work. Every one of them managed to stake a place in the collective unconscious. Gilligan was certainly the most lovable of them.

Actually, I wish someone would run the old Dobie Gillis show again, because I liked Bob Denver's Maynard G. Krebbs even more!

So long, little buddy. OOF!

He was a funny guy. Digging out his old appearance on the Howard Stern TV show - he played along and had a great sense of humor. Worth seeking out...
