Undoubtedly the most romantic and endearing film of Woody Allen’s career, Annie Hall is the movie that redefined the romantic comedy. Comedian Alvy Singer falls in love with the quirky and beautiful Annie Hall, and the ups and downs of their relationship become a hilarious roller-coaster of romance. Wistfully personal and undeniably funny, Annie Hall is one of the most genuine portraits of love, one that has been imitated but never surpassed. Beautiful cinematography and top-notch costume and set design only add to the perfection of this Best Picture winning film.

Everyone says "But have you seen Annie Hall?" when I say, "I really, really don't like Woody Allen." Don't get me wrong, there's a couple I do like. But they usually involve him not being IN the movie.

So maybe I should see Annie Hall, and at least really like this movie. And maybe even like him in it.

The only reason I watch Annie Hall is to watch the house under the Coney Island Thunderbolt... that would be my idea of heaven (but it's been demolished)

Funny, but I hate the ones he's not in.

Realizing I haven't seen anything post child-love period, I rented everything he's done since then during a Netflix lull of anything new and exciting.

Most of it was 'meh', but the worst was "Celebrity" which had Kenneth Branaugh playing, I kid you not, Woody Allen. Speech affectations, mannerisms and everything. It was disconcerting. If the role is supposed to be Woody, then give me Woody. The film was completely unwatchable, and I returned it unfinished.

The two gems among Woody's later work, if anyone's interested, are "Deconstructing Harry" and "Small Time Crooks."

Annie Hall's great, but I will always resent it for beating out "Star Wars" for Best Picture in 1977.

I refuse to watch Celebrity. I was speaking of The Purple Rose of Cairo and Alice. I actually really, really liked Deconstructing Harry. And I also liked Allen's piece in New York Stories.

I wanted to love Everyone Says I Love You. A musical starring average folk, with old-time music. But it really kinda sucked. Except for that funeral scene. That was delightful. And I always love watching Tim Roth.

But Woody Allen's presence often irritates the crap out of me. His kind of neurosis is not my cup of tea. And as he gets older, and only stays the same, I having even less tolerance for his on-screen presence. Though it worked in Deconstructing Harry.

I love Sleeper, Annie Hall and What's Up, Tiger Lily, but to me, his finest hour was Radio Days.

I love them all. But, Interiors and Hannah and her Sisters are my two all time favorites.
