This past weekend I hosted the first Thin Man party. I must say, it went over really well!

The menu was somewhat eclectic, not vintage, but everyone enjoyed it:
cumin-roasted potatoes with caviar and smoked salmon
roasted-pepper goat cheese torta
deviled ham on crostini
miniature crab cakes with a ginger/mango pickle
crudites
chicken and pork skewers with peanut sauce or nuoc mam
martinis & manhattans

Dress was casual since the weather has been too hot & humid for anything other than that, even in the AC. Another ex-patriate from California was wearing vintage, Venice Beach wear! It was quite swanky.

We viewed the first in the series, The Thin Man. I had also typed up a 1 page set of quotes for the attendees to shout along with Nick & Nora (okay so that was so Rocky Horror, no toast, except real toasts in the cocktail sense). The quoting was quite hilarious as I left some of them guessing where the quote would be (a few, believe it or not, had never seen the film). A good time was had by all and everyone is anxious for the next round of cocktails and the next in the series, After the Thin Man.

Okay, now I'm hungry....

Sounds like a great time! We used to have Monty Python parties where we had Spam and coconuts and stuff- not nearly as swanky as your spread, but fun nonetheless.:D

Well, it's not always the swank of the spread of eats that makes a party. I did a little extra for this one since it was the first, we can only go downhill (like the series of films) from here! :)

The company was terrific and everyone was open to the theme, even though we were not in 1930s drag or decor.

In any case, I recommend this kind of party for anyone, it worked and I am looking forward to the preparation for the next!

If you were closer you would have been invited or at least benefitted from leftovers!

Well, a party can always be arranged next time I am in the LA area....unfortunately, it looks like October is now pushed into November for my next trip to LA. :-(

In any case, get me to a Trader Joes and give me access to a kitchen and almost anything can be done!

I shall have the bartender line up 7 martinis - to catch up with you - in your honor
