According to a survey conducted by Sony Ericsson, the world's favorite song is.........We Are the Champions by Queen.

Ummm, really? I mean, it's a good song and all, but the world's favorite? Then you look at the rest of the top 10.

Queen 'We Are The Champions'
Britney Spears 'Toxic'
Michael Jackson 'Billie Jean'
The Eagles 'Hotel California'
Shakira 'La Tortura'
Nirvana 'Smells Like Teen Spirit'
The Beatles 'Yesterday'
U2 'One'
John Lennon 'Imagine'
Dire Straits 'Sultans Of Swing'
Man, the world's in worse shape than I thought. Sultans of Swing? Come on now, this is a joke, right? Or maybe people who own Sony Ericsson phones have a warped sense of music taste.

I can see why four of those songs would be on a list of say top 25-50 but the others? { #'s 1, 6, 7, 9 and not in that order}

The world's favorite song is whatever's playing when the person they're trying to score with finally says "yes" :D

Which is why the boyfriends of my life should send the biggest thank you note to Depeche Mode. A Question Of Lust alone has gotten them laid more then floor tile.

Sultans of Swing isn't even the best song by Dire Straights (IMHO).
Yesterday isn't even the best song by The Beatles (IMHO).
One isn't even the best song by U2 (IMHO).
Hotel California.....yeah, I could agree it's the best Eagles song, but top 10?
Michael Jackson and Brittney Spears.....shudder.

The only one I could see as a top ten choice for me would be We are the Champions, but there is SO MUCH MUSIC out there I don't know if I could ever come to a top ten myself. I guess taste is taste and to each their own.

You just ruined my high.

I took the train to Hollywood and am on my way to the premier of a friends' film. The human race seems pretty cool......then I read this. :(

You mean 'Punk Rock Girl' by The Dead Milkmen wasn't even in the top 10?

It must be fixed.

Soccer is the most popular sport in the world, "We Are The Champions" is a huge soccer anthem. It makes sense that it ranks as the world's "favorite" song.
Anyway, we all know that popularity does not necessarily connote quality.

Did the survey include every single song there is? Or only a select set?

If one believes the world is comprised of idiots, this isn't so hard to believe.

Oh, I'm so mean. But not really. Each person's taste to his and her liking, after all. *I*, for example, love art. But my home? It's half decorated with bad art. I love bad art. Art made by the lay people. Folk art? Perhaps. My father just found a giant velvet painting of a crying boy. I told Heidi, "Instead of a sad clown painting, it's a painting of a boy looking at a sad clown." Man, it's wonderful! My father called to tell me he was bringing me a gift, "I've been putting pennies aside for a long time." Awwwwwwww, I thought.

And then it was a joke. Someone left the painting outside and he found it and thought I'd either love it or be horrified by it - either way, he wins.

And I LOVED it, alright. "Did you KNOW I've been looking for a velvet painting? I've been searching for one for years! Most of them are either of Elvis or some naked chick, but this - THIS - is unique!" And then I squeezed him tight and clapped my hands and planted that sucker on my wall. Now where to put my Corpse Bride poster, I wonder....

So, "Toxic"...bad velvet paintings...well, who am I to judge this list?

There are no bad songs - there are only bad people.

But it gave us that wonderful dance! Which I would do every time the DJ played that equally silly "Mortal Kombat" song at cons. In one of my con outfits. Oh yeah!

Wow. I'm certain at least two of those songs have never met my eardrums! The others? Meh. We all have our tastes, as was said above, and I have mine. I'd still put the Cure's "Pornography" up there, and I have good friends who find that unlistenable. :D

Besides, a much more important survey would involve the world's favorite cheese.

Besides, a much more important survey would involve the world's favorite cheese.Well, if it followed the pattern of this list, #1 would be either American or Whiz.
