This may be old news to some, but it was new to me, I'm going to have to let my fingers do some walking at amazon for this.

NEWLY DISCOVERED RECORDING OF THELONIOUS MONK & JOHN COLTRANE

Blue Note Records to release newly-discovered recording of Thelonious Monk and John Coltrane in a concert at Carnegie Hall in 1957

On September 27th, Blue Note Records, in conjunction with Thelonious Records, will release Thelonious Monk Quartet with John Coltrane- At Carnegie Hall, a never-before-heard jazz classic that documents one of the most historically important working bands in the history of the music, a band that was both short-lived and, until now, thought to be frustratingly under-recorded. The concert, which took place at the famed New York hall on November 29, 1957, was preserved on newly-discovered tapes made by Voice of America for a later radio broadcast that were located at the Library of Congress in Washington DC earlier this year.

Thanks for the info Snowflake. On an administrative note, could you cut the quote down to a key sentence or paragraph or so?

This makes me so undescribably excited and happy. For me (and please nobody take offense) this is what it would probably feel like for the Pope to find a long lost recording of Jesus preaching. Trane has always been my musical idol and I love his work. And Monk; man, that cat had chops like nobody's business. This is some really kickin news.
