American bishops, aiming to rebuild the dwindling ranks of Roman Catholic priests, started a new campaign Friday encouraging clergy to invite young men into the priesthood.
And what are they calling this recruitment program? "Fishers of Men"
I thought the church was trying to come across as less gay.
'course, it's probably some bible reference that I'm completely unaware of...but STILL, there's got to be a less gay quote in there that would work. It's a big book

Yeah, Jesus was called the 'Fisher of Men' somewhere in the bible. Sounds very gay.
But, then again, Jesus could have been gay. I mean, he was 33 and his Jewish mother couldn't make him get married?* :D
*I can't take credit for that joke. One of my other Jewish friends told me that one.

Hey, at least it isn't "Fissures of Men"... :D
"Fishers of Men" is a refernce to a bible verse - "And He said to them, 'Follow Me, and I will make you fishers of men.' " Matthew 4:19

Now I'm playing devil's advocate here but:
Fish don't get caught willingly and are often better off in the water.
;)

don't really want to continue on this path, would be draggin yet another thread through the gutter.....

And this is relevant because he was speaking to fishermen, asking them to leave their profession and join him.

We wants the gutter!
Alrighty then....
The direction I was heading is as follows...
When you go fishing, you usually bring the fishes home and clean them then eat them...
So is then would Jesus be suggesting that you go after men then eat them up???
Is this some kinda homo-erotic imagery that Jesus implying???
Cause I don't normally catch fish to let them go, I catch them to eat them....
So I would assume that Jesus meant the same thing for the men...
(it sounded more guttery in my head, and there has been a day or two for the gutterness to have been cleansed by alcohol, sorry for the relative cleanliness of the post and not the aformentioned gutter talk)

No no no! It's all about the sport. You see, you go around on Saturday Mornings looking for unsuspecting fish to snare in your net, then you indoctrinate them into your cult where they will go back into the waters and lure other, unsuspecting fish to follow them. See! There's tons of good sport in that.
