Yes, and they probably don't feel their religion of choice is any more cult-like than your average Southern Baptist.
I consider them all equally cult like, but that is only my opinion, and only means as much as you let it mean.

I'll be honest I don't get scientology. It was started by a sci-fi writer for money. The only things I've heard about scientology have been the funniest kind of ridiculous. I'm really not trying to offend. Maybe our resident scientologists can explain it better?
From the bits I have seen, there are very silly parts to it, but nothing as silly as the beliefs of the christian or any other biblical based religion.....(again, in my opinion, which only means as much as you let it mean)....
but there are some other bits that I have seen about the philosophy of scientology that has some merit too it.....
So basically it is, in my opinion, similar to any other type of myth based religion, there are good parts, and silly parts....
again, all my opinion, has only as much meaning as you give it.......
I am not a scientologist, just read a bit here and there about it, some may be untrue, some may be true, dunno, don't really care.....

When people go on "Joking" about the Pope, posting pictures or links, or other negative comments about the Catholic Church, I get the JOKE.

I'm just pointing out to you that there are people here who might take offense, what you do with that information is up to you.

Having once worked in a law firm where an entire wall (biiig wall) of files were lawsuits of people trying to get their financial lives back from Scientology, and considering that my dad had his own run in with the incredibly aggressive "religion," I have to say I'm not too concerned if someone should take offense. I probably like our thetan loving brethren, but I really despise the tactics used by the religion. Love the sinner, hate the sin, as they say. Mormons have some kooky beliefs, but are usually the nicest people you'd ever meet, and create an incredible culture of "family" for their followers. Born Agains talk in tongues and know that they're the only ones getting into Heaven. Point is, lots of religions have some nutty around them, but Scientology is nutty and dangerous.
In the interest of full disclosure, this LoTter's spiritual practice leans towards Religious Science, a more practical descendant of Christian Science. Less Christ, more science. I don't agree with everything, but it sets a good tone for me. Oh, and I go to Disneyland almost every weekend. Poke your fun.
Freedom of religion and tolerance for our fellows is important, but when nutties like Mr. Cruise get on TV and say that psychiatry kills and depression can be cured with a few visits to the Celebrity Centre, I think they need to be ridiculed long and hard.

Scientologist or not, Tom Cruise is an ass.
Jumping up and down on Oprah's couch like a teenage boy who just got laid all due to his insane love for his child bride. ICK. He reminds me of one of those smothering, way-too-emotional boyfriends who eventually go wonky when you tell them to get to steppin'. I don't care how much money they have or what they look like or how famous they are- it's just a dangerous combo. And how lovely for your ex wife, and your children, to hear you blurt out on TV, "I've never been in love like this before!"
Dorkass.
Or, at best, he's just a stupid ass. Either way, I'll stick to dreaming about Scott Bakula. I'm still saving myself for him. I hope he's Catholic! :)

Holy moly, I'm a bitch when I post late at night. :(
I hope my post didn't offend anybody who practices scientology. My post was aimed at the assholery that consumes Tom Cruise. Certainly not Scientologists.
As a practicing Catholic, I get my share of ribbing, but I'm confident enough in myself to know what I believe in, to never let my faith waver, and to practice tolerance towards my brothers and sisters who may not share my beliefs. My Mom taught me early on that all Religions are different pathways to Heaven. I may not agree with everybody's views, but I will show people the same respect that I expect to be given.
Except for Branch Davidianism, or anything that faintly cries of Jonestown. After all, I'm only human. :(

What was bitchy about your first post, Ally? Tom Cruise is a dork-ass. He has remade Ms. Holmes into the perfect little Stepford Wife- vacant gaze and all. Now, she's a knocked up Stepford Wife, or fiancee. He's pathetic.
