View Full Version : Prudence is bored

So, I'm sitting at the front desk in the law review office, 1.5 hours into today's 10 hour office hour marathon. Every 2L has to put in 15 office hours per semester. So I'm spending what would be my day off sitting at this desk. Something in the building air venting mechanics makes this desk shake. It's very distracting. I'm going crazy. I'm used to being in a single office, not out in the open.
The deal with office hours is that you have to sit here and be available in case someone needs something. So far today I've taken 1 phone message for the EIC, verified some other students' office hours against the spreadsheet, and called for repair on the copier. (Some sneak in last night left a note timestamped 5pm to call for repair. Jerk!)
But now my in box is empty and neither the EIC or ME is in, so no more work for me to do at the moment. Just....sitting. I'm going nuts. I'm so flippin' bored.
What shall I do? I've played my KoL turns. I'm too tired to focus on my reading. I forgot my headphones so I can't listen to anything interesting. No one's on google or clan chat.
I'm bored!

Google has chat? There may be a few threads here that haven't been naughtied up yet. You could work on that.
When I'm bored I organize my budget for the next year or so (not that I stick to it), or do travel research for places I can't yet afford to go. Then I try to work the travel into my budget. That's what got me planning my Japan trip. Which turned out to not be as expensive as I thought.
Or you could hide people's staplers and pens and otherwise make them think they are going nuts.

There aren't any people right now and the only stapler is already on my desk. :(
Bah. This sucks.

arg! someone somewhere (I think it's the snack cart downstairs) is playing music right at that annoying volume. You know -- it's just loud enough to be barely audible, but not so loud that you can tell what the song is. Drives me nuts, it does.

Hey Prudence - I work from a home office. When I'm bored, I can do laundry or dishes or something productive. I can exercise on my elliptical. I can check email or play on the internet to my heart's content. I can read my paper. I can listen to the radio. I can take a nap.
Just thought I'd make your day by telling you all the wonderful things I can do at work while bored. :)

Hey, how about having your character eat something? I got 3 extra adventures by eating mushrooms. I could throw some in the clan stash if you want

While it's a generous offer, Morigoon, it would occupy me for maybe 10 minutes? Actually, it occurs to me that I haven't played my pastamancer's turns yet, so I could go do that.
Meanwhile, here at the office, I have just returned from an excursion to the bathroom. Not because I really had to go, but because I was desperate for a change of scenery. I would like to report that the third floor ladies' room in Sullivan hall is cold. Not just kind of cold, but Forest Service outhouse cold. You know what I mean -- the concrete building with a HUGE amount of interior space to go along with the toilet seat mounted decoratively over the pit. Why are forest service outhouses so huge? What is it one could possibly intend to do in an outhouse that requires more space than the living room in my first apartment? There's no sink, no mirror, no plumbing. Just concrete, roof, toilet seat, pit. And lots of unused space with significant stench potential.
If this lull in activity keeps up I'm going to have to no choice but to resort to doing actual homework.

Pru, I'm in a workshop in Sacramento. "Teens in the Library".
I just got to post on my blog as part of an assignment. Let's keep each other amused!
Prudence

Is your workshop as fascinating as my day?
On the other hand, I did get a kumquat bubble tea earlier, so that's something.
And the new ME came by (she was my note and comment editor and liked my work) and was aghast to learn that I'm here on my day off and told me to email her and we'd "work something out" for my remaining hours so that I don't have to come in on my days off. Yay new ME!
How shall we amuse ourselves? Given that we're in public places, of course.

Could you send that to me when you are done with it? Just wondering.
Hopefully it will include a sphincter that can be ... manipulated. Then we'll see how much R and R he actually gets at his "office".

Well, we can amuse each other via funny barbs and quips about our day. :)
It's not totally facinating... as I am here to find out how to get "butts in the seats" for our teen programs. I think I am going to be the idea maker for the branch but the Childrens/YA librarian has to put the idea out.
Bummer thing is... today is an inservice day for my daughter. I could be at home with her.. but I am here :(

Only as I leave today! I was tardy today because parking was hard to find. .... and I have the name of my library on my nametag. I'll wait until I take it off to embarass myself!! ;)

Perhaps the LoT could market a voodoo doll of me to assist with any expenses they have. I'm sure it would be quite the revenue generator.
As a friendly reminder, I no longer have a LOWER ESOPHAGEAL SPHINCTER. It was removed. So manipulation is not possible. I'm certain you would not be referring to anything else.
Curious - Why do you have "office" in quotes? Perhaps you are thinking a better word would be "brothel"?

One day you need a toaster, the next you're turning $1000 tricks. What can I say? It truly is a slippery slope.

Tonight, to make up for the long, boring day, we're getting takeout from this place. (http://www.eatsmarket.com/menu_dinner.php) Looks good!

I'm laughing too hard to have any sort of comeback. :D
I will say that the toaster only cost $19.95 so I really did get a deal.

Thank you all so much for entertaining me! I'm particularly pleased to know: what libraryvixen will be doing in elevators from now on; CP's plans for an alternate personnal; and most especially, scaeagles's career development plans.
And now for a rousing evening of Supernanny and Threshold.

I was hoping to bring amusement to your day.
You told me, though, that it was a 49.95 toaster. I feel so....so....cheap.
