I read this article this morning and I laughed while I puked. I say, Ms. Andrews, what are ya thinking?
Andrews says Cameron Diaz would be the perfect choice to play Maria if "The Sound of Music" is ever remade.

Yeah, right. I can see it now... Ben Stiller is the perfect choice to play the Captain. Liesl, the eldest daughter, will now be twins played by Mary Kate and Ashley... the delivery boy (played by Ashton Kutcher) will have to choose between the two in the gazebo during a dancing frenzy...
Cameron on the bed with the kids in a pink teddy: "Girls in, like, white dresses in blue satin sashes and stuff and junk..."

Maybe Knott's wasn't too far off with it's Halloween depiction of Ms. Andrews?

If they ever did a "modern version", no matter who starred in it, I'd have to kill somebody.

Totally. I'd help you.
I still think someone should be murdered for 'Guess Who?' the remake of 'Guess Who's Coming to Dinner' with Bernie Mac and Ashton Kutcher.

Can we stop with all of the remakes please!!!!!!!
A few are great, even spectacular. But, hello!
Your's Mine and Ours and Cheaper by the Dozen? I think some of these remakes were conceived in a Hookah Bar.

Ooooohhhhh, the rant's not over yet!
Someone said "I wanna see Yours Mine and Ours" it looks like such a cool move idea! I bit my tongue and didn't say anything about Henry Fonda and Lucille Ball.
You know the average person's film memory only goes back like 12 years. Hence the plethoera of remakes - expecially those of the horror variety. Boss Radio can correct me if my facts are off. I heard that fact from his wiseness.
They should have done Hotel Rwanda was a modern retelling of The Sound of Music.
But it should be pointed out that Hollywood has always drunk from the remake trough. Heck it used to be not unheard of for directors to remake their own movies after a period of time.
I don't really have a problem with remakes and try to judge them on their own terms (and shoot me but I prefer the Harrison Ford version of Sabrina over the Audrey Hepburn version, which was one of the few Billy Wilder misfires in my opinion).
The famous version of The Maltese Falcon was the third time that story was put to film. I don't understand why a filmmaker would be willing to take on the heightened expectations of remaking a classic but the original Yours, Mine and Ours is hardly in that category (though a good enough movie).

Nobody, and I mean nobody, could best Christopher Plummer, my all-time No. 1 Crush. Captain my Captain, NOBODY COULD EVER REPLACE YOU.
Hands of this movie, Hollywood. Or I will, along with Jenny, KILL SOMEBODY.

I know this sounds silly, but for me some movies are just downright sacred. When they remake films to update them and make them more hip, it just infuriates me. I don't think anyone in Hollywood in their right minds would think of remaking 'SOM' but sometimes I wonder. They just might.
I mean, not to beat a dead horse here, but 'Guess Who's Coming to Dinner' was a landmark film for its time. It tackled a very serious subject with drama and humor and starred a wonderful cast. Now how does one take that and think that Bernie Mac and Ashton Kutcher could do this thing justice? I mean, where was the producer that said, 'Gee, we can't get A list people... the script sucks... maybe we shouldn't be doing this.' Hollywood deserves the bad numbers they have been receiving. You don't put anything into it, you won't get anything in return. I'm beginning to feel that Hollywood is just teeming with rich cronies who don't know what the hell they're doing anymore.
End of rant. For this post at least.

What bothers me about remakes, is Hollywood tends to mostly remake succesfull films. There have been a number of bombs that had a good concept/story behind them that given the right folks at the helm might make a good film from bad. Alas, once a film bombs, it seems the story is cursed.

This is so very true. Why not take a great script that wasn't carried out right, remake it to try and do it justice? I think that's an excellent idea. Someone in Hollywood could corner the market with an idea like this. Too bad they're not creative enough to do it.
