We first heard them on KCRW, bought the CD, and saw them live at Coachella and they were a blast - a 2-piece cabaret inspired band that is coming back to LA on December 29th at the Henry Fonda Theatre. Check out their website here: http://www.dresdendolls.com/
I just bought tickets for Not Afraid and myself, anyone else interested?

Don't they sing 'Coin Operated Boy'? I love their style.
I don't know if this interests you, or if you already know, if you dine at the Blue Palms Lounge prior to the show you have early entry and you can watch the show from some special seating. I can't remember, perhaps the balcony?
We didn't dine at the Blue Palms, we had appetizers.
Have a great time!

YES! Coin Operated Boy is them. They're really great live, complete with Cabaret-style makeup.

Really? Wow, that would be fun to see. I think it is just up your and That Guys alley. Total swankdom.
I've only heard a few of their songs. I will have to check if they are coming to San Diego. The House of Blues here seems to try and have as many shows as possible.
The Hubster being back at work enables us to go to shows again but limit our ability to get out of town.
It would be cool if others joined you for a fun night on the town.

Well, we saw them last night and they played a 2 hour, non-stop, high energy set that had me in awe (and ache). What happened to the days of wearing 3" heels to a club, standing or dancing of hours and still feel fine? Well, they are gone - but that was the only downer of the night.
It was great to see people wearing vintage styles again. I spend a good part of the 80's wearing clothes from the 20's thorough the 40's and it seems to be in vogue with the clubbers again. Of course, I never stopped wearing that stuff completely so I fit right in, except that I am twice these kids age! Oh well. Too bad.
Anyways, Janet Klein and the Parlour Boys opened for the DDs and played a great set of speakeasy style tunes. Very fun, very vintage styled music from the 20's with lots of silent film star mimiking by Ms. Klein.
In between the two bands we had a variety of cabaret performers including a couple of mimes perched in one of the side balconys, an arial fabric artist (who is off to perform with Cirque) and a wig juggler. Quite the variety show!
I could never recreate the Dresden Dolls' set, but early on they played Miss Me (I just love that fu<ked up song) as well as Coin Operated Boy (which everyone sang along with). They saved Girl Anachronism for the end but did no Kurt Weil at all.
Seeing a full set was so much more amazing that the tiny appetizer we got at Coachella. They have such energy for just 2 people on stage. They play off of each other so very well and both are equally entertaining to watch.
If you ever get a chance to see them, do so - just don't wait until you're old and have back problems. ;)

Sounds like it was a blast. I think the Fonda is a great place for a show like that. But, I do imagine it set up with little round tables with red cloths and a little light in the middle.
Did they act out 'Coin Operated Boy'?
