We left here around 6am Friday morning, heading to Buena Park for the weekend. NEVER AGAIN!
It was not just raining when we left, it was pouring!!! We were heading south on 99, not even out of town yet, I was driving, slowly, because the rain was coming down so hard. I was in the fast lane, passing a a semi who had moved into my lane to let a pickup merge onto the freeway. I was right next to his front trailer when I heard a bang so loud I felt it. I could see the semi edge closer to me so I sped up. Luckily I did, I got past him to hear David telling me to look in the rearview mirror. The pickup that had merged was trying to go too fast and hydroplaned. The bang I heard was the pickup hitting the semi's back trailer. I looked back to see the pickup hit the soulder on his side and then spin all the way back across the freeway to end up in the center divider. I got off the freeway and let David drive. The rain stopped in Castaic.
We got to the Knotts hotel around 9 (we stopped for breakfast on the way down). OMG! It was a horrible check-in experience. They were supposed to be holding our tickets and the person I talked to said that they could hold our bags for us until we got our rooms. DLR does the same thing, but more efficiently. The guy checking us in took forever. We were standing there with him for over 30 mins. I had to remind him 3 times that we needed to check our bags and we needed our tickets.
We got to Knotts as they were opening the gates. I wanted to ride Ghost Rider, I love wooden coasters. It was a walkon (as were all the rides on Friday). I wedged myself into the seat only to find the seatbelt was 2 inches too short for me to be able to buckle it. I got to watch the boys take off in the coaster I wanted to ride. I asked the kid working on the platform if all the coasters were going to be like this and he said yes. So I knew then that my riding options would be limited for the rest of our visit. I felt like dirt.
When the boys got off the ride I tried to make the best of things and the day did improve. We had a great lunch at TGIF (they make really good margaritas) and went back to the park for a bit longer. Then it was time to check into our room. We went back and the shift had changed and the front desk service was much better. We got to our room, an over sized (but not a suite) room overlooking their courtyard. It seemed perfect. We went off to the hotel restaraunt for dinner. The name is Amber Waves. The first thing I thought of was Boogie Nights. It took me a while to figure out it was from the anthem. They made me a margarita to go!!!
We wne tback to our room and David and Nickolas both fell alseep. I read for a while. I was finally reading for bed when the people in the rooms on either side of us came in for the night. That is when I truly learned that we had an adjoining door on both side of the room. I could hear everything being said, and some really annoying laughter that never seemed to stop. I heard teenagers playing video games and arguing with their parents. I heard plans being made for the next day. It was so loud I tried to muffle the sounds by sticking towels under the doors. They finally seemed to quiet down around 2am.
I am not real picky when it comes to housekeeping during our stay. I do like to have the beds remade. We left the room at 8ish for breakfast, went back to the room and left again around 9. We took off for an old car parts place for David's model T. We ended up on PCH heading for Santa Monica. Played there for a bit, had an awesome lunch at Bubba Gumps (more margaritas) and dorve back to the hotel. Our room had not been touched, it was 2pm.
We went back to the park so that Nickolas could ride Jaguar again. We got back to the room at 5ish, the room had not been touched. We were heading to Medieval Times. I ran into the head of housekeeping in the elevator and asked if this was the norm for them and she said yes. I am used to DLH where they clean your room as soon as they see you leave.
Medieval Times was great!!! We had an excellent time! Our seats were perfect and the food was decent.
Back to the hotel to find our beds were made but nothing else was touched.
David crashed while I was reading and Nickolas was watching TV. Nickolas zonked out while watching TV. AT 10 pm our noisy neighbors were back. I was finally able to sleep after taking a Benedryl, an anti depressant that helps me sleep and a Motrin 800.
We got up this morning, not sure if we were gonna go to the park or not. We walked down there at 9 and saw the huge lines waiting to get in. It was a Toys 4 Tots promo. A woman came up to us and asked if we knew where she could go get a $10 toy. We ended up giving her our last 2 tickets. She was shocked that we would do this and not want anything from her in return. So we told her the only thing we wanted from her is for her and her kids to have a great day.
We got home in record time.
