View Full Version : They're Crumbelievable?!

I just saw a Kraft commercial just now for some new cheese product called 'Crumbles'. The jingle in the commercial was a bastardized version of EMF's 'Unbelievable'. So instead of singing, 'You're unbelievable!' they sing, 'They're crumbelievable!'

That just bugs me for two reasons:

1. Crumbelievable? Oy. That's so dumb. That's not even a word.

2. I see more and more commercials trying to appeal directly to my generation with songs that were hits at one point in my younger days. Ugh. (I mean, the EMF song is only so-so to begin with...) It's so blatantly transparent that I just wanna scream, 'Don't try to appeal to my generation with that song. Jerks.'

:D

This post is really meant to be tongue in cheek and funny but have you noticed the commercials with the songs in it that are more from the 80's and 90's? I think another one was the Swiffer commercial that used Devo's 'Whip It' in it. 'Swiff it, swiff it good...'

Bleh.

The use of the Propellerheads in a commercial made me want a Jaguar, but the CD was cheaper.

lol! :D

I was in the other room just now and I heard 'Melt With You' on some commercial. I didn't see which commercial it was.

I remember when I was a kid and there was a big stink about using Beach Boys music in commercials. There was a lot of coverage of the use of baby boomer nostalgia to sell stuff.

Same as it ever was...

Yep. Wasn't the Doors song 'Light My Fire' used in a car commercial back in the day? I think Jim was still around when they used it.

I heard an ELO song (think it was 'Turn to Stone') on a commercial the other day- didn't make me want to buy whatever the hell they were selling, but I did want to go out and buy the CD.

I remember the horrible stink over a Beatles song being used in a commercial. Oddly enough, years later the world is still spinning.

heh - if it's a song we're all familiar with - it's already commercial ;)

Already commercial, yes, but not advertising. I HATE it when a song I actually like becomes incidental to a pitch for car, beer, soda, whatever. Luckily for me, the songs I love are very rarely chosen by the Madison Avenue set.

Worst recent example, "New Toy" by Lene Lovich showed up in a Target Christmas ad. Now, I love shopping at Target, and I love Lene Lovich, but they did not do each other any favors. The ad made the song sound completely stupid, and the song was too quirky and distracting to serve the advertiser well. aaack.
