For the DC area, anyway.

(1) It will always start to snow heavily as soon as rush hour begins
or
(2) It will always snow just enough to snarl traffic and irritate the crap out of you
or
(3) There will always be the few, the proud, the jerks in SUVs speeding and cutting in and out of traffic forcing you to hit the brakes and very nealy slide into a partition
or
(4) It will never snow enough to close the Fed and allow me a snow day
or
(5) Weather will report it will be no accumulation, then it will be a blizzard.

Today will be a combo of (1) (2) (3) and (4). and tomorrow it will be gone.

It never blizzards when I want it to!

You are absolutely correct, on all points. (Especially the SUV's).

Rules of winter in OC:

1) For 90% of winter, it will be cold enough to wear a scarf and hat in the morning and evening, but at midday you'll look like an idiot wearing them.

2) It's almost never worth it to carry an umbrella with you. It will usually end up in the car when you need it at the house, and vice versa. A hooded jacket will be fine for most "rain" situations.

3) "Rain" is when your glasses get wet and you have to wipe them. "Pouring" is when you should probably have an umbrella with you, or you can run quickly from car to building. When you get a real wall of water for a few minutes it's called "OMG, it's REALLY RAINING OUT THERE!" A "Flood" is when it rains for two days.

4) "Snow" is something you make out of sheets of white paper. You fold the paper a bunch and cut little shapes out of the sides. This has something to do with Frosty the Snowman but we're not sure what.

Snow is a great place to visit but I will NEVER live there. I'll take my earthquakes any day!

Ahh you forgot the all important rule #4b.

"It will never snow enough to close the Fed giving me a day off, however it WILL snow enough to delay or close the schools."

Today is a very pretty 4b day.

I need to study up on snow shenanigans. There's snow everywhere here. I'm taking Snow 101 and am just figuring out where to step and not fall on my a$$...
:D

I got me a pair of black Sorel Snow Boots the other day. They totally rock. I look like Frankenstein's monster while wearing them but they rock nonetheless.

I found out the "new" word for snow is SQUAL - at least according to Land's End. They have all sorts of Squall this and that.

I thought a squall was something only a crusty old fisherman would experience at sea. But, what does this native Californian know?

What about a poor Hawaiian? I heard that there were chances of flurries the other day and I freaked.

Ralphie: TV said there'd be a chance of flurries.
Me: What the hell is a 'flurry'?
Ralphie: I'm not sure.
Me: I'm thinking it doesn't come with crushed McOreos.

You must spread some Mojo around before giving it to Gemini Cricket again.

I hate snow.

Snow's vengeful, too. It (and its friend, Ice) somehow found out I was leaving it forever and decided to make my last few months miserable.

If I never see snow again, that would be fine.
