I had to share this one with the LoT collective:
When Ralphie and I were at the theatre Xmas Eve to see 'King Kong', I saw a teenager looking at a movie poster for Spielberg's new movie.
He turns to his girlfriend and says, "Hey, look! Spielberg's new movie: 'Munch'. Why he gotta call his movie 'Munch'? Damn!"
"It ain't called 'Munch', dumb a$$." The girlfriend replied. "It's called 'Munich'. Idiot."
:D
That made me laugh. I mean, maybe he has a reading disorder or something, but it struck me as being funny. It also struck me as being sad that he had no idea what 'Munich' was about or the events therein. Oh well. There's our future before my eyes... 'Munch'. :D

That's funny because just yesterday I drove past a billboard and at first glance I thought it did say "Munch".

You know, I just realized that the thread title says "Munch", not "Munich".
Carry on.

I happened to see Munch, er Munich last night ... and I thought it was a very good film. It's nice to see Spielberg do something worthy rather than pap like War of the Worlds or The Terminal.
I've heard complaints that the film is wishy washy for tackling both sides of the Israeli-Palestinian terrorism issue ... but what kind of crap would it be if it didn't? It's not supposed to be a gung-ho revenge movie (though it smartly plays like a caper flick to keep up the excitement level), but is rather - at its heart - an indictment of eye-for-an-eye justice, extra-legal assasination justice, and of the level good people are often forced to stoop to in order to do battle with bad people ... and the toll that takes on the human soul.
Great performances, action a'plenty, human drama and a timely moral ... all packaged by one of the world's foremost film directors. Not a bad recipe for a movie.

I, too, saw 'Munich'. I saw it on Sunday and still feel like I'm recovering from it. I liked it. It is shot very well. It's paced well. Like iSm says it does not take sides. But what it does instead of sway you is it makes you feel very frustrated that the problems between the two sides will never, ever end. It made me frustrated.
What's equally as frustrating to me is Spielberg's choice for a final shot of this film. Although I agree with him that 9/11 had everything to do with problems in the Middle East and fundamentalism, I felt that he was once again putting 9/11 images into his films (like he did with 'War of the Worlds') thus making it feel like he is exploiting what happened. This is also an another example to me how Steven needs to lighten up and do some escapist films once again. He's no fun anymore. And the only reason I can identify this in him is that I feel I do that too...

No fun anymore? War of the Worlds wasn't escapist fun, even though a disaster flick? Ok, how 'bout light fluff like The Terminal or Catch Me If You Can? Not having enough fun yet from good ol' Steven?
I found the shot of the WTC to be the perfect comment at the end of the film. Terrorism will never end, and its brutality may sink all of us to levels of animal barbarism that civilized society is meant to shun. I hardly think a light touch was appropriate for Munich, or that a message-laden image at the finale was out of place for this particular message-laden film.
Oh, and I'm moving this to Beatnik, cause I (and others) may enjoy discussing the film now that we're done dissing the idiots who are too young and stupid to know either the title, significant 20th Century history, or basic geography.

Frankly, I wish the Israeli's would wise up, forget about Jerusalem and their homeland of 2,000 freaking years ago, and seek out what I thought was an unwittingly wise suggestion by an Iranian Imam ... namely, see if some small European country - - say, for example, Lichtenstein - - would like to become the new Israel.
