I'm sorry I didn't catch this sooner, but TCM has been having a Miyazaki Festival each Thursday. We've missed quite a few but what remains is worth seeing.

This Thursday, 1/19 is:

8:00 PM My Neighbor Totoro (1993) Two girls with a sick mother find escape with the spirits of the forest. Cast: Voices of Dakota Fanning, Timothy Daly, Lea Salonga. Dir: Hayao Miyazaki. C-88 mins, Letterbox Format 9:30 PM

9:30 PM Porco Rosso (1992) An airplane pilot with a pig's head devotes his life to rescuing others. Cast: Voices of Michael Keaton, Cary Elwes, Kimberly Williams. Dir: Hayao Miyazaki. C-102 mins, Letterbox Format 11:15 PM

11:15 PM Whisper of the Heart (1995) A young girl goes looking for the boy who has checked out all the same library books as she. Cast: Voices of Brittany Snow, Cary Elwes, Harold Gould. Dir: Yoshifumi Kondo. C-0 mins, Letterbox Format

on 1/26 is:

8:00 PM Only Yesterday (1991) A young woman looks back on her childhood while traveling around Japan. Cast: Voices of Miki Imai, Toshiro Yanagiba, Youko Honna. Dir: Isao Takahata. C-0 mins, Letterbox Format
Not Miyazaki but a Studio Ghibli film

10:15 PM Pom Poko (1994) A group of magic raccoons use their shape shifting powers to save their forest home. Cast: Voices of Jonathan Taylor Thomas, Clancy Brown, J.K. Simmons. Dir: Isao Takahata. C-119 mins, Letterbox Format

These seem to be repeated after midnight as well. Set your DVRs or watch them when they're on. Good stuff.

I confess of my total ignorance of Japanese anime (except fond childhood memories of Marine Boy and Speed Racer and Kimba the White Lion) - the films I have watched on TCM have been a total revalation! They're FAB! :snap:

Watch it or I will go off on the complete joys of the Ghibli Museum in Tokyo. I haven't been so excited about anything "childish" since I first went to Disneyland.

I LOVE Ghibli. They are not showing Kiki's Delivery Service but they are showing My Neighbor Totoro. Totoro is a must-see. And, Donna, you will LOVE the Nekobus.
