I find some of these highly amusing and I do think that LoT is very Hipatitis!

The Washington Post's Mensa Invitational once again asked readers to take any word from the dictionary, alter it by adding, subtracting, or changing one letter, and supply a new definition.

Here are this year's winners:

1. Intaxication: Euphoria at getting a tax refund, which lasts until you realize it was your money to start with.

2. Reintarnation: Coming back to life as a hillbilly.

3. Bozone (n.): The substance surrounding stupid people that stops bright ideas from penetrating. The bozone layer, unfortunately, shows little sign of breaking down in the near future.

4. Foreploy: Any misrepresentation about yourself for the purpose of getting laid.

5. Cashtration (n.): The act o f buying a house, which renders the subject financially impotent for an indefinite period.

6. Giraffiti: Vandalism spray-painted very, very high.

7. Sarchasm: The gulf between the author of sarcastic wit and the person who doesn't get it.

8. Inoculatte: To take coffee intravenously when you are running late.

9. Hipatitis: Terminal coolness...

10. Osteopornosis: A degenerate disease.

11. Karmageddon: It's like, when everybody is sending off all these really bad vibes, right? And then, like, the Earth explodes and it's like, a serious bummer.

12. Decafalon (n.): The gruelling event of getting through the day consuming only things that are good for you.

13. Glibido: All talk and no action.

14. Dopeler Effect: The tendency of stupid ideas to seem smarter when they come at you rapidly.

15. Arachnoleptic Fit (n.): The frantic dance performed just after you've accidentally walked through a spider web.

16. Beelzebug (n.): Satan in the form of a mosquito, that gets into your bedroom at three in the morning and cannot be cast out.

17. Caterpallor (n.): The colour you turn after finding half a worm in the fruit you're eating.

And the pick of the literature:

18. Ignoranus: A person who's both stupid and an asshole

Upon first reading, these are the one that resonated with me:

3. Bozone (n.): The substance surrounding stupid people that stops bright ideas from penetrating. The bozone layer, unfortunately, shows little sign of breaking down in the near future.

7. Sarchasm: The gulf between the author of sarcastic wit and the person who doesn't get it.

9. Hipatitis: Terminal coolness...

18. Ignoranus: A person who's both stupid and an asshole

Sarchasm is a word that seems VERY pertinent to the message board community. I see a lot of Sarchasm happening.

Bozone is fun because I love a good thick-headed insult.

Hitatitus is just right on.

Ignoranus will be used in the future quite frequently I'm going to assume. It is just too good.

Now, if one or all of these gets used in a blockbuster film it will become "real" as Ginormous did.

When did they use "ginormous" in a movie?

Nearly all of these are fantastic! Many have real world applications. I'm going to try to remember "cashtration". "Sarchasm" is awesome.

Too bad "caterpallor" isn't that great....:p

I love all of these, but for some weird reason 'Reintarnation' made me crack up the most. Wouldn't that just be the ultimate in Karmageddon- to come back as Hill Folk?

Heck, why is it that you know a pop culture reference?!?

I don't completely live in a plastic bubble of high art and compelling culture?

Actually, I don't live there at all, but I'd like to move in!:D

Well, since I live in the country where the NRA and gun rack rule the day, I hope I've burned the karmageddon necessary that would require my coming back as one of these guys!

Oh, puhlease.

I dare any one of you to do time in Eastern Washington- we make Kentucky look hip.

Although, I must say- I've never eaten squirrel. There's just too many bears and such around to mess with the little critters.:D

Actually, I've never eaten bear, either. But I could have!

hey wendybeth - picked your favorite quarter design yet? Alas, none of them include a great swath of emptiness to represent Eastern Washington.

Wheat.

Rows and rows of...wheat.

I think we ought to go with Mt. Rainier- it will be nice to have a remembrance of what it once was when it does blow.
