I know a few of us are planning on attending this. It's a Friday night and getting to Santa Monica might be difficult for some, but if you can make it, please join us!

Friday, February 24 - 7:30 PM
Los Angeles Premiere!
OSCAR SHORTS
Don't miss this rare chance to see a program of live-action and animated short films nominated for this year's Academy Awards BEFORE the winners are announced on March 5th! Always a magnificent look into the talent working in this often overlooked format. Please check our website or www.apollocinema.com (http://www.apollocinema.com) for updates after the Academy Award nominations are announced on January 31, 2006.

Heh, I posted about this in the Oscar Noms thread! But thanks for the new thread and the info and linkage.

Seriously, there is some incredible work done in the shorts every year. You get to see people play with their medium before they get big. Last year's winning animated short Ryan (http://www.nfb.ca/trouverunfilm/fichefilm.php?lg=en&id=51259) was, literally, my favorite film of the entire year. Last year's winning life-action short (Lisa and Chris have also seen it) still makes me queasy.

This is an outing of quality entertainment (that is sure to appease some of you who have been complaining about big dumb films or remakes.) Pease join us!

I love the Aero. I just saw Days of Heaven and Raiders of the Lost Ark there. Montana is the cutest street in Santa Monica, as well.

Will likely see some of you there.

OH! We were going to read up on which shorts we'd be seeing-- and it turns out that this year the Aero will only be showing the documentary shorts! I'm sure that they are swell, but I'm most fond of the animated and short subject films.

We found an article in Variety from yesterday stating that Magnolia Pictures will be releasing a program of the animated and short subject films, but no details have been released yet. We're determined to catch these and would love for others to see them too, so we will update here as soon as we hear back from Magnolia or can find any other information.

I talked to my contact at AC this afternoon and it seems the shorts are split between the Docs as the Aero and the rest at the Fairfax.

The date is 2/24 and the shows are split between live action and animated. I'm not sure if they can both be seen in one night, but that's all that they are playing.

Oh, ooh! Though it's the same night as the docs-- might we consider moving our gathering to the Fairfax?

So are we seeing the docs shorts at the Aero tonight, or the other shorts at Laemmle/Fairfax?

Well, I'm leaning on NOT going to either. After my horrendous drive to SM last Friday and the terrible commute across town for Chris, I'm not sure we are up for doing it again. I know, such a lame excuse, my one sick person and one grumpy person do not make for adverture. :(

I understand! We're not all that into the docs shorts but were gunning for the animated/live-action ones. Donna's in town, but maybe you guys would have time to see some of the Laemmle ones later? They're running at least through this Thursday.

Well, we bail on the Aero and on going to WLA at ALL last Friday, but we ARE going to go see the Animated Shorts at the Fairfax on THURSDAY March 2nd at 7:40 pm. Chris and I are going to converge somewhere at a Red Line station and Snowflake is going to find us and then the 3 of us will proceed to the Fairfax (which is on Fairfax and Beverly).

I purchased tickets online and they were still available, so join us if you can!
