For a baking project that needs to be done tonight (2/7/06) I need to get some black (red will not work) licorice laces. These are the thin ones that are about as thick as spaghetti.
I've checked my local grocery stores and have only found red ones. Can someone suggest where (hopefully in or close to West LA) where I might buy some of these elusive confections?
Thanks in advance.

Did a basic internet search and found The Candy Castle (http://yp.yahoo.com/py/ypMap.py?Pyt=Typ&tuid=9042716&ck=4231290148&tab=B2C&ycat=7766830&city=West+Los+Angeles&state=CA&uzip=90025&country=us&msa=4480&cs=4&ed=JM_l5K1o2TyFo4Zyx1W0ohwdgByEVWoNEa6Ri8bxWcJWRg--&stat=:pos:3:regular:regT:7:fbT:13) in Westwood Village.

This place (http://www.sweetfactory.com/storelocator.php) tends to have anything and everything, but I don't think any of these are too close to you......call them first before you venture out.
I'd do a Yahoo yellow pages search (http://yp.yahoo.com/) to find places near you and make phone calls. (Yahoo is much more comprehensive than Google Local at this point.)

I'm not familiar with LA, but down here in SD you need to check the drug stores.
The Walgreens, savons... the groceries wont normally have it, but the places that carry to older clientelle usually will.
(Unless you found CP's suggestion, and I'd be surprised if they didnt.)

I could swear that I have seen these at Target but I could be mistaken.

I had looked on Google Maps and on LA Yahoo last night prior to my initial posting, but I could not find any candy stores that were close by. I'll try Sweet Factory (http://www.sweetfactory.com/storelocator.php) , Candy Castle (http://yp.yahoo.com/py/ypMap.py?Pyt=Typ&tuid=9042716&ck=4231290148&tab=B2C&ycat=7766830&city=West+Los+Angeles&state=CA&uzip=90025&country=us&msa=4480&cs=4&ed=JM_l5K1o2TyFo4Zyx1W0ohwdgByEVWoNEa6Ri8bxWcJWRg--&stat=:pos:3:regular:regT:7:fbT:13), Target, and nearby drug stores tonight.
Black Sharpies are too thick, grey (except for the caps), and I want my creation to be totally edible. My friends don't like to consume plactic permanent pigment-filled tubes. :p
Thank you for the suggestions, I'll look into them this evening. :)
