Heads up, there's a 2 hour Arrested Development special on tonight at 8:00. Interestingly (and probably meaninglessly), the website is calling it a "Season Finale" rather than a "Series Finale".

You know, I have to take some of the blame for the shows cancellation.

I love the show, think it is one of the best things on TV and still can't be bothered to actually watch it when it airs. It's a sign of the changing times that I just end up saying "eh, I'll catch it all at once on DVD."

I find myself doing the same thing with other sitcoms I like (My Name is Earl, Scrubs) but not hour long dramas where I know I'll never buy the whole season DVD.

Exactly. I've heard great things about this show, but I can no longer be counted on to watch something week-to-week. I much prefer waiting till an entire season is on DVD, and then watching it all in a row over a few nights.

So, now that Arrested Development is bidding the world adieu, perhaps I can catch the entire series that I missed, one day soon on DVD.

When I actually know when it's on I watch it. They change the time practically every week. I really really hope the show comes back somewhere. I stand by my statement that it's the best show ever.

Geez, people, get with it and buy a DVR! ;)

I only say that because ours was a gift.

Yeah, and then I'd also have to subscribe to cable TV. Um, $40-$60 bucks per month vs. my $19 Netflix per month.

Do the math.

I have the bare minimum $13/month cable necessary to get the cable broadband. Now, it isn't my fault that for the price of the package that is supposed to get us channels 2 through 13 we actually get 2 thorugh 71, but it still doesn't come with DVR.

I do have a PVR for my computer so that I can watch news while working in our computer room but I never actually watch the shows I record on it so I stopped.

Vs? Netflix is as necessary to me as cable, which is as necessary as the TV itself....yeah, born and raised a junkie.

DSL
Netflix.
Direct TV

In that order of importance.

No DVR. I don't even have a working VCR. But, you'd better belive I have an all-region DVD player.

When my TV set broke about 4 years ago, and was out of commission for 5 months, I discovered - to my complete amazement - that I could somehow live without the thing that had been ON, non-stop, whenever I was at home. Whether I was watching or not - unless I was listening specifically to music - the TV was on to provide background noise if not entertainment.

I am cured and I am loving it. I watch two TV shows when they air (which is rarely) - 'The Sopranos' and 'Deadwood'. I cancelled my cable TV and have never looked back.

If I am intrigued by friends' tales of a great show, I will patiently wait for the DVDs to come out. I would much rather watch a season all in a batch - with no commerical interruptions - than any other schedule a DVR could devise.

Yeah, when Lani and I moved to the Bay Area we never got cable and lived with what could come in on antenna, which was one channel (NBC).

For about six years we lived this impoverished lifestyle of watching maybe three hours of TV a week. And it was good.

Then when we moved last April we realized that for less than the price of telephone and DSL we could could have cable and cable broadband, giving up the landline we never used.

But we weren't going to go whole hog, we'd just get the bare minimum cable package. Unfortunately the cable company didn't do it right and while we only pay for the bare minimum we get standard basic cable.

I still don't watch nearly so much TV as I did before moving to the Bay Area but it is slowly creeping back in. Nothing highlights just how much almost all sitcoms are than to go a couple years without watching one.

Since we got our ReplayTV, I'd say I watch less tv, my tv watching is just more focused.

I'm like Alex, we're supposed to get very basic cable to support our internet, but for some reason we get all the channels (except for the movie channels). We also have netflix. We don't have DVR, but as we speak Michael is building an entertainment computer complete with TV card and myth TV for Linux. That way we can record TV and play all our retro video games. It's my anniversary gift, so it's only, oh, six months late. :p

We used the caveman method here, and recorded it on a blank tape from our VCR. It was so painfully funny. I'm gonna miss that show. :snap:

I loved how Ron Howard narrated the part that he was in.

Oh man, what a ride that was. Those bastards are so brilliant, so sad it's gone :(

In case someone hasn't watched it:

Thinking back on the finale, did they or didn't they say conclusively who "N. Bluth" is? They confirmed that there was an N. Bluth account, but was it Nichael? Was it Nelly? I don't think they every really totally tied that up. Not that it mattered really, but still.

Nelly was Lindsay. The guy that couldn't grow hair was going to adopt her and they named her Nelly. Then the Bluths adopted her out from under them just to spite them. Is that what you are asking?

I like how they left a few strings hanging. Gives me hope that maybe another network will pick it up.

Is that what you are asking?I knew that, but did they definitively tie that to the account? She was Nelly before the adoption, I don't know that they really established that the accoutn was definitely named for her. (it probably was, but they're usually far more explicit with those connections, so I was surprised that they didn't really tie it up).

Finally watched the finale last night. Brilliant.
We noticed at least two incidents of bizarre looping. Was I missing a subtle joke (yet again) or was it the result of a plot change to fit the finale?

Oh I see. No I don't think they did say. Has anyone heard any rumors about other networks picking it up?

I missed the first part, but the last three episodes of the season were hopelessly delightful. Oh, man. I'm gonna miss the show. I heart you GOB!
