Help?

I used to have my TiVO hooked up to record one station while I watched another. Some friends hooked up my home theater up and I can only watch what I am recording now.

I know it has something to do with the way the cable is routed because flipping stations on the TV shows it's just snow. If I re-route the cable would that affect the theater system?

Signed,

To watch one thing and record another, you need to have two inputs into your tivo from 2 separate cable lines.

So question 1 is, do you have 2 cable lines, or a splitter (single input, 2 output) on your cable line?

I have a splitter. It used to record one thing and watch another. I hooked that up when I got the TiVO but when I did that my VCR wouldn't work (it's a dvd vcr combo) but the dvd part did Now my VCR works but I can't record one thing and watch another :(

Okay, then if you have a 2 way splitter, and I understand you correctly, here is how you should have it set up:

Connect one of the split cables into the first TiVo input.

Connect the second of the split cables into the VCR.

Connect the output of the VCR to the second TiVo input.

Connect the TiVo output to your tv.

Check.

How does the main theater conponent get sound? A/V cables or coax cables?

Check.

How does the main theater conponent get sound? A/V cables or coax cables?Should be A/V (RCA) cables. I'm assuming your TV has audio outputs. You'd connect those to the Aux input of your receiver.

How many inputs does your TV have?

1 coax, lots of A/V.

Why can't this be as simple as setting up a home network? :(

I went to do this and I am so confused :(

Ok, I think I figured out the problem. I am going to have to take down my network and re-establish it in another room. But first I need to buy a second power strip. And a wireless adapter for my TiVO.
