I've never been a big fan of the biker lifestyle but I may have to trade in my suit and ties for leather and a helmet.

Apparently there is a group of anti-gay whack jobs going around to military funerals crying out at the families that US deaths in Iraq are divine retribution on a nation that harbors homosexuals. The bikers (http://www.cnn.com/2006/US/02/21/funeral.motorcyclists.ap/index.html)are attending the same funerals expressing, oh how should I put this, a somewhat different point of view.

All I need now is a cool biker name:

"Mad Dog Moonie" or perhaps "Howler"

Yeah, good ol' Fred Phelps. He can't live that much longer, can he?

Sad though that this outrage over these nutjobs only increased once he started picketing military funerals. When he was just picketing gay funerals, I don't recall anyone pushing legislation to ban this activity at funerals.

I'm all for freedom of speech, even the kind I don't like. I still think that a funeral of any person is not a place to protest. The family members don't deserve this crap.

Here's a shocker.

I like Fred Phelps.

He's so extreme that he makes all anti-gay movements look even worse.

He's old, but he's got a big family. The church that he belongs to is comprised mostly of his relatives and friends.

My hope is that every funeral he goes to will get people to rethink their own latent anti-gay views.

Yes and no. Although he's done his best to keep it quiet, he is also at least loosely associated with the much larger Christian Identity movement.
