I got offered the new job today! I can leave the soul-sucking den of soul-suckery!

It seems unreal. I've worked here almost 8 years. I can't believe I'm leaving!

Well done, I'm sure the old place will curse themselves for the loss and the new place will chuckle incessantly with their excellent choice.

I hope you manged to get some time off in between positions. I know this great spot you could hang out for a few days of R&R. It has bobsleds, Steam Engines and all sorts of fun stuff ;)

Whee! Just emailed one of my new co-workers to let them know that I had a vacation already planned/paid for in May and she assured me it was no problem, and that they were also "friends of the Mouse."

You mean I won't have to take down my WDW vacation photos because they're a "morale problem?" hee!

How I spent my afternoon:

Ryan called parking to see where our new spot would be.

For those of you who haven't spent gobs of time on the UW campus, a map (http://www.washington.edu/home/maps/)may be useful.

Old office is at approximately 16L - south campus. Ryan works at 6E - to the west, off-campus. New office is 10L, smack in the middle of campus. Most people who work in Gerberding park in the Padelford garage at P8. Far east end of campus. Fair hike for me, but REALLY bad for Ryan.

So Ryan calls parking and they have *ONE* available carpool spot available in the central garage. Right under Gerberding. I can take the elevator from the garage right up to the second floor. No more walking in the rain! No more dodging basketball traffic! No more losing spots to football vending!

However, I have to trade in my old permit before I can get the new one. No problem, I'll just trot out to the stadium and get my old permit.....except that since the Metro bus incident last week our car's in the shop and we have a rental. With one key. Which Ryan has. At the Roosevelt clinic.

So I run downstairs and out the back just in time to catch the shuttle to the clinic. Run upstairs, get the key, run back down just in time to catch the return shuttle. Dash from back of hospital to elevator, wait for ever, dash through lobby and out to stadium lot, get temp permit for the car so it doesn't get ticketed while I'm exchanging permits, put temp permit in car, take real permit, run (actually, at this point, since I'm wearing my "only wear when I don't have to walk very much" shoes it's more of a slow limp) back to health sciences and up to the parking office.

But I got the permit! Woohoo!

To recap: Boss that isn't deliberately spiteful toward me, workplace that is accustomed to accomodating flexible schedules, job that does not require me to babysit grown women or be present just in case someone wants their ass wiped, more money, primo parking, and Disney-friendly co-workers...

Yes, I'll have to give up having an office. But it wasn't a very good office and as cubes go it's pretty damn nice. Way in the back, new furniture, right next to the big window that *opens*! And since I don't have to wait on people hand and foot, I'm allowed to wear headphones all day.

I'm going to go swoon now.

And then buy a iPod.

That rocks with the rocks of a thousand rockettes.

(Wait, rockettes have rocks?)

You know what I'm saying. This is deserved, this is past-due, this is everything I've hoped for you!

This is also inspiration for me to get out of my own soul-sucking den of soul-suckery.

Because a girl only gets so many "yay me" threads before people start tossing around words like "egomaniacal", I'll put this here.

First, yesterday I got to take a break from leaving Old Job and pick out a chair and get a key to New Job. Yay! I only have 1 more week of Old Job and then I am FREE!!!!!!

Second, I just, mere moments ago, turned in the final draft of my Damn Article, as I like to call it. The project that has been looming over my head since August, when they called to say "hey, you're on Law Review - and by the way that means a hell of a lot of extra work." Done. Gone. Tonight I get to dump all my research and notes into a box and stow it away. I can have a small, tiny sliver of a life again.

Just a small sliver, but at this point I'm not picky.
