CNN Story (http://www.cnn.com/2006/SHOWBIZ/02/25/knotts.obit.ap/index.html)

LOS ANGELES, California (AP) -- Don Knotts, the skinny, lovable nerd who kept generations of television audiences laughing as bumbling Deputy Barney Fife on "The Andy Griffith Show," has died. He was 81.

Sad news. I watched the "Andy Griffith Show" quite a bit as a kid and enjoyed it, mostly because of his character. I also enjoyed all of his Disney work such as "The Apple Dumpling Gang". Still, I think my favorite thing that he did was "The Incredible Mr. Limpet". I so loved that movie as a kid and in fact, I noticed the other day that it was gradually making its way up my netflix list.

RIP Don and thanks for the laughs.

yes, MBC, Apple Dumpling Gang is a very fond memory of the past.

live action was the name of the game then, and Disney released a slew of them... i was just the right age to enjoy them all on the big screen.

it is a sad day in Disney history to lose such a beloved talent named Don Knotts.

I have seen "The Ghost and Mr. Chicken" more times than I can count. What a great comedic talent he was.

Best Don Knotts movie ever -
THE LOVE GOD?

It's a great sixties comedy in which good, church-going birdwatcher Don Knotts finds himself forced to publish a skin magazine. He ends up as a kind of reluctant Hugh Hefner. Very swanky, hilarious and suitable for the whole family. Put it in your queue immediately.

This is sad news indeed. I'm glad that he got a few funny lines in CHICKEN LITTLE.

Another sad note, Darrin McGavin (http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/02/26/AR2006022600040.html), the father in "A Christmas Story" also died today. :(

Also, I wasn't aware that Don Knotts, won 5 Emmy awards for his character "Barney Fife".

The Reluctant Astronaut was the first movie I ever saw without my parents.

I will miss this great talent:(

There's actually a movie that unites both of these dear departed actors.

Walt Disney Pictures' NO DEPOSIT NO RETURN

Don Knotts and Darrin McGavin star as safecrackers who get saddled with some kids. I've never seen it, but the set-up sounds kind of Damon Runyon-esque. Anyway, it's on DVD, if anyone wants to check it out for a dual honorary viewing.

(I've posted this same message on the other tribute thread as well.)

No Deposit No Return was a great movie. We also love Private Eyes, Apple Dumpling Gang, Ghost and Mr. Chicken, etc. He was such an awesome actor. So sad that he's gone. :(
