View Full Version : The mother of all emails...

My proselytizing mom strikes my inbox again.

Now, the prayers, novenas etc I can handle. I'm even okay with the pictures of the Virgin Mary appearing in an oil stain on the side of a building.
But this one... Oy!

(After each "DO YOU KNOW?" is a picture corresponding to the text below it. My favorite picture I'll post here after work.)

Here it is...

---------------------------

Andy Rooney says...

DID YOU KNOW?

As you walk up the steps to the building which houses the U.S Supreme Court you can see near the top of the building a row of the world's law givers and each one is facing one in the middle who is facing forward with a full frontal view .. it is Moses and he is holding the Ten Commandments!

DID YOU KNOW?

As you enter the Supreme Court courtroom, the two huge oak doors have the Ten Commandments engraved on each lower portion of each door.

DID YOU KNOW?

As you sit inside the courtroom, you can see the wall,
right above where the Supreme Court judges sit,
a display of the Ten Commandments!

DID YOU KNOW?

There are Bible verses etched in stone all over the Federal Buildings and Monuments in Washington, D.C.

DID YOU KNOW?

James Madison, the fourth president, known as "The Father of Our Constitution" made the following statement:

"We have staked the whole of all our political institutions upon the capacity of mankind for self-government, upon the capacity of each and all of us to govern ourselves, to control ourselves, to sustain ourselves according to the Ten Commandments of God."

DID YOU KNOW?

Patrick Henry, that patriot and Founding Father of our country said:

"It cannot be emphasized too strongly or too often that this great nation was founded not by religionists but by Christians, not on religions but on the Gospel of Jesus Christ".

DID YOU KNOW?

Every session of Congress begins with a prayer by a paid preacher, whose salary has been paid by the taxpayer since 1777.

DID YOU KNOW?

Fifty-two of the 55 founders of the Constitution were members of the established orthodox churches in the colonies.

DID YOU KNOW?

Thomas Jefferson worried that the Courts would overstep their authority and instead of interpreting the law would begin making law . An oligarchy.
the rule of few over many.

DID YOU KNOW?

The very first Supreme Court Justice, John Jay, said:

"Americans should select and prefer Christians as their rulers."

How, then, have we gotten to the point that everything we have done for 220 years in this country is now suddenly wrong and unconstitutional?

Lets put it around the world and let the world see and remember what this great country was built on.

It is said that 86% of Americans believe in God. Therefore, it is very hard to understand why there is such a mess about having the Ten Commandments on display or "In God We Trust" on our money and having God in the Pledge of Allegiance. Why don't we just tell the other 14% to Sit Down and SHUT UP!!!

---------------------------------------

This is your classic "Fwd" emails that circulate. I wonder if she even read it...

I looked up snopes and found out that Rooney didn't even say these things...

My favorite part is in red. Send a whole email trying to convince me of something and all opposing opinions are not welcome. Yow.

Funny stuff.

She once told me that if Spencer and I adopted kids and they slept over, they'd wake up with wet foreheads.

That's funny, cause if you wait till they're 9 or 10, and have them sleep over zap's and my future abode, they'll wake up with wet sheets!

I just love when a random acquaintance sends me and 100 of thier friends the latest BS forward. If they put all the email addys in the CC, I can then reply all with the Snopes link. I will not hesitate to make someone look bad when they fall for stupid things without checking snopes.

My mom sends fwds out like no tomorrow. She doesn't send them to me because I'll reply with the Snopes link. But she still sends them out.

She also likes to send me the add your name to the list (for whatever wack petition) and send to 100 of your closest friends. If you're number whatever on the list you're supposed to forward to the White House or whatever. Like that really works.

They must be from George Bush.

I have my mother trained to call me when she receives scary emails, instead of forwarding. "Is this true?!" "No, mom, here's the Snopes link." Actually, by now she's seen enough Snopes links to be fairly jaded.

63% of all statistics are made up.

And only 35% of them are true.

My sister is big into the forwards. She really enjoys the religious ones. I don't even read them anymore, just look and see if it has been forwarded more than 10 times and toss it.

That is my usual course of action as well. But this was a cleverly disguised 'Fwd' email labelled 'Brad, Read This'. I should have known. :D

I responded with the snopes.com link and an actual Andy Rooney quote where he asks if the ten commandment supporters would support the Koran being placed next to or in place of their displays.

Oddly enough, I haven't heard back from Mother Dear.

I love the snopes point-by-point dissection of this email. Not only did it show what total BS it was - but it taught me a bunch about the art and use of symbols in the Supreme Court. Yay snopes!

Before there was Snopes, there was the Comimitte for the Scientific Investigation of Claims of the Paranormal (CSICOP) (http://www.csicop.org/si/).

Haaaaa

When we went to the Tori Amos show in Nashville, this little queen was perusing the tshirt table with his boyfriend and generally bitching about everything there. When he came upon the "Satin Worship" shirt, he mumbled...

" I don't think I could go out in public with 'Satan Worship' emblazoned across my chest"

My mom is so funny sometimes. She sends me this email with about a thousand (not really a thousand, Leo) FWD's all over it. At the very bottom it says "Instructions for Life" and the rest of the 10 pages are pale yellow lettering on a white background. I can't read a single word. Ah, somethings never change. :D Yes, I can highlight it to read it, but I just thought it was funny.

AND when I tried to download it this is what I got:
