The Gig
Dinner & Drinks

The Grub
Blue Crush (the blue drink)

Edendale Meatloaf, wrapped in applewood smoked bacon with tomato brown sugar glaze, mashed yukon gold potatoes and steamed seasonal veggies.

In the group dining there were 4 meatloaf orders
and 1 filet medallions served with yukon gold potato gratin with radiccio and gorgonzola and a bordelaise sauce.

The Scene
The Edendale Grill is housed in the old Edendale Firehouse. Paying homage to the history of the area EG is decorated with old silent film memoraibia (since there were several studios local in Edendale, most notably the Sennett Studios), this was a nice touch. I had fun picking out who was who on the walls and am proud to say I was pretty much spot on at about 95%.

The restaurant is comfy, well lit and also has the added bonus of an outdoor tented area which I am sure is spectacular on a spring day. The only downside is that the floors are hardwood and no provision was made to deaden sound, so with many tables filled with conversing patrons, I could barely hear the person right next to me. Forget about hearing any conversation across the table. That was a definite minus.

Having been up for nearly 24 hours I felt the desire for some comfort food and was not dissapointed by the meatloaf. I was also very pleased with the well prepared brocolli rabe, not a hint of bitterness in it and still firm to the bite. It was yummy. As is my custom in any new place to dine I caved at the end and had a creme brulee, with fresh berries, it was also delicious.

The blue crush was deemed to be delicious as well. I'm afraid I'm not a good drinker and after a few sips my host finished it up without a hitch (and I drove home).

We took a look at the Mixville Bar and it was also very atmospheric, a LONG wooden bar and the walls facing the bar filled with photos of, who else, Tom Mix. The bar was packed and filled with happy people.

At the time we left (well after 11pm) the place was still very much packed, especially outside. Reservations I would say are a must. I'll go there again and try outside to see if it is less noisy. Inside perhaps only for lunch unless you don't like talking.

Please note that parking in the area is terrible so it is best to leave the car with the valet to worry over where to park it. Valet parking was a nominal $4.50 and whatever for tip.

Overall, I'll give it a solid 4.5 for the food, service and the nod to the history of the area. Some carpet or wall coverings of some sort would take care of the noise level in the dining area.
