View Full Version : In the real world

I meet a Disney geek out in the real world today.
He's a member of the Disney vacation club and is planning to get married at WDW next year.
It was a bit surreal for me. I meet the average Disney fan now and then, the type that know what a fastpass is but not how to really work the system. There are also a few people that have caught on to the fact that I seem to know more about Disney vacations than their travel agents and talk with me about vacation plans
But real Disney geeks are few and far between around here. He saw the Disney vacation docs I received today and that got us talking. I could tell right off that he was used to being the "Disney expert". The type that might know that PoTC is down for rehab and can use basic Disney slang but definitly not the type that's ever taken part in plundering pirates. I went easy on him.
He struck me as the type that might hang out on one of the more mainstream Disney sites. Perhaps if I see him again I'll ask if he knows any good Disney web sites...

Out where you are in the "frontier", I'm sure it must've been weird to meet another DGeek. Is he a coworker of yours? Perhaps you'll become good friends :)
GD has a coworker who's a DGeek but he's really not that cool ;)
I just made up "DGeek", cool eh?

There are four of us DisGeeks, as we're called, here in my company.
Four different departments, we all know each other, and all have a common ground.... the break room.
Two of us met in line at MA to turn in packets... the other two... tripped over our Disgeek convos. :)
Though I like the Dgeek better.
How odd for you Moonliner... but how utterly cool too!

Perhaps you'll become good friends..
Back in the day, there were two types of Star Trek fans. Trek'ers and Trek'ies.
The 'ers loved the show, discussed (ad nasium) the finer points of the plots and went to some conventions to see the blooper reels and perhaps pick up a rare show related item.
The 'ies would lean to speak Klingon, wear pointy ears in public and faint dead away were they ever to meet "Crew member 14" from episode 12 in person.
In the Disney universe I think of swankers as 'ers. This guy had definite Disney 'ies tendencies.
I just made up 'ers and 'ies, OK so it's not as cool as Dgeeks.

I totally dig what you're saying about 'ers and 'ies.....you can spot 'em a mile away
For some reason I was never partial to the use of "Dis" or "Diz" in reference to Disney.

Hey! What ever happened to the term "Disneyphile"? Too broad?
All of this buzzing over the "ers" and "ies" made me ponder over what some castmembers might be called. There's the group that I would likely be lumped in, the "life'er" (castmembers that have been in the company for more than 10 years or so), and those castmembers that breeze in and out like the seasons, the "tempies"! Am I right? Am I right? BTW, the term "life'er" is one I've already have been called in real life. I still cringe on the inside when I hear that.

How do you pronouce DGeeks?I was thinking "Dee-Geeks".
Hades is right...I associate Disneyphile with a certain poster far too much to use it in actual conversation.
Just so long as no one says "Disnoid" I'm happy.

Nope, sorry - but Dee-Geeks just doesn't roll off my tongue.
I predict it won't catch on.
(Heheh, when it first opened, I was sure the nickname for DCA was going to be "Cad.")

Hey! What ever happened to the term "Disneyphile"? Too broad? :evil:I'm not sure Disneyphile (http://www.loungeoftomorrow.com/LoT/member.php?u=42) would appreciate being called a "broad" :D
Actually, she would be the first to laugh about it.

There's even a wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Avoid_the_Noid) entry for that game. Ah, what a classic.
And here's a link to the game, (http://www.dosgamesonline.com/index/game/Avoid%20the%20Noid/504/) for those who are curious...

From meeting a disney geek to the Noid.
This is more fun than six degrees of Kevin Bacon.

You mean like:
The Noid
which was voiced by Pons Maar
who was in Return to Oz with Fairuza Balk
who was in Valmont with Vincent Schiavelli
who was in Fast Times at Ridgemont High with Sean Penn
who was in Mystic River with Kevin Bacon?
