Last year, there were rumors floating around about the Disney Gallery being turned into space for a Club 33 expansion. I was told that would not be the case, that that information still holds. However.......
It seemed the now closed Gallery (closed due to water damage from a very leaky roof) will re-open sometime in March as.....Disneyana Part Deux.
Gone will be the revolving themed exhibitions and the only art displayed will be that which can be purchased via the Print on Demand process. The former Gallery area will feature........merchandise. WOW! Just in time for the 50th!
Personally, I think they are blowing an opportunity here to do something wonderful about the History of Disneyland in celebration of the 50th. But, what do I know. ;)

Bummer.
Even the whole Print on demand thing bums me out. Given the scope of the Disney publishing archives, shouldn't there be more choices? (btw, if anyone can find me an poster from TDL's Cinderella's Castle Mystery Tour, my birthday's coming up in August).

Well, my understand is that what you describe is what they are doing over at the Opera House. That's what the CM's are telling people over there, at least.
Having said that, the last thing DL needs is another shop selling the same stuff that all the others do. I really long for the days when at least the shops were diverse enough that it was worth exploring them to see what each one had.
Mostly though, I'm just sad that there is going to be one less place to display the wonderful collection of Disney art. I'm just as tired of the HM exhibit as the next guy but I had high hopes that something new was coming soon, and it wasn't a shop I was hoping for. :(

I have a running joke with one of my friends about disconnect between our reverence for Disney history and Disney's odd attitude that the Gallery closing seems to indicate.
He gave me a call after he listened to the new MousePod and said, "Jesse, don't worry about Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln, it'll be at the Disney Museum with all the rest of the classic art." Ha ha.

Can we all promise not to buy anything there? Especially since it's all available elsewhere.

No.

Won't help. If we all boycott the place it can still make thousands of dollars every day. :(

Exactly! Keep "Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln" in the Opera House and use the Disney Gallery for a History of Disneyland exhibit, I say, instead of closing/?removing? the Lincoln show. The Disney Gallery is the perfect location for a museum-type exhibit.
Also, some of you have probably already noticed that a Print On Demand machine/kiosk has been installed into World of Disney for a few months now.

Hehe. Not enough stores at the resort for ya? ;)
Well, stores can be good or bad, but Disneyana is in a class or appeal all by itself. So, while I am NOT thrilled with the choice, I will shop there.

That really is a shame. I remember seeing the 100 mickeys there the last time I visited. The place had a very intimate feel to it, now it will be another giftshop.

Another shop? Ewww. Got enough of those already. I'll be sad to see the display space go away.

What about the patio?
Will my favorite quiet spot be gone?
