This morning I witnessed a kid on his bike get hit by a car. I looked just in time to see the Jeep's rear end lift up as the driver jumped on the brakes, the car slam into the kid and bike, and the kid bounce off the hood and fly backwards. The kid went one way and his helmet went another. He started screaming and grabbing his knee. Thankfully, nothing else on the boy appreared to be seriously hurt.:(

Here's hoping the child is okay.

Geez, so much for bike helmets being effective.

Edited to add: Just for the record, I'm not saying that they shouldn't be used. :)

Kids seem to like wearing them loose, MbC. I've adjusted the chin strap on my youngest son's helmet probably a half dozen times because he's always loosening it.

You witness far more interesting things than I do while driving. This accident, the adult male lighting a cigarette for the pre-pubescent female....just where are you driving?????

Maybe I'm just more observant than you, sca.

Of course a cell phone talking, fast food eating, map reading driver would have been hard pressed to not notice a kid bouncing off the hood of a car.

Poor kid!

We once passed a pretty brutal wreck on the freeway out where there is just wire and posts separating the two sides of the highway. There was a body lying on the ground. I asked Michael what that was in the fence as we passed because I didn't get a good look at it. His response: a severed arm! In the new that night we found out a woman had been thrown from the car in the wreck and into the wire. :(
