I call Shenanigans on these recent LoT meets. Shenanigans shenanigans shenanigans. There seems to be a disproportionate amount of LA and Boston LoT meets. There have been a ton of LA meets. And only one Boston meet. Lisa and Chris showed up for that. Kudos to them. Harumph.

Oooh, a meet where the guests of honor will spend more than 45 min, will go on rides with us, sink boats with us, and possibly let us honor them with saved prime spots for the best fireworks show the world has ever known.

Plus I can't wait to get me some more of that inexplicable SacTown twang - that just doesn't come through in posts. It will be uber nice to visit with the S.T. clan again, too!

Scrooge McSam
06-14-2006, 07:29 PM
Call me an idiot (YOU'RE AN IDIOT!!) but I thought this boat sinking I've been hearing about was some kind of code talk for something else.

You actually sink boats? As in fill with water so they sink to the bottom and the ride has to be closed and evacuated? Or something else?

Cadaverous Pallor

You actually sink boats? As in fill with water so they sink to the bottom and the ride has to be closed and evacuated? Or something else? You're half right. We sink boats to the bottom - of the shallow canal. It's nowhere near deep enough to get water into the boat. Sometimes this results in CM's hauling us out of the boat - sometimes the CMs can shove us along - sometimes it only sticks for a second and then the current pulls us along.

Then there's that thing we do on Pirates where we put the heaviest people in the first rows and lean forward on drops. This causes a big splash getting at least a few drops of water on everyone on the boat - and a tidal wave over the front end, which sometimes makes it into the boat, soaking the pants of the front row. Don't know if that qualifies as sinking either.

No-one ever comes to Sydney instead. *Boo hoo*

Just because we don't have any theme parks - that's so theme-park-ist of you all.

I can give you a dead rat, and a string to swing it on......

Allright, I give you all permission to have fun without me. :p

BUT

Don't forget to have a Corn Dog for me. :(

CoasterMatt
06-14-2006, 08:07 PM
Lashbear, I've been doing everything short of mailing myself in a box to Australia to get back to Oz (there's a wonderful new Intamin steel coaster at WBMW), and I'd definitely go back to Sydney if I got the chance - even without a theme park - Sydney is one of my favorite cities on Earth.

As a proud recipient of just such an honor I must say, such a gift honors the giver :snap: :snap: GD, CP and ISM rock.

Ps. To any future recipients of this honor, falling to your knees and crying "we're not worthy, we're not worthy" is somewhat undignified. According to strict DL protocol the correct response is: "Wow! This is great, thank you so much. Here have a Grande White Hot Chocolate". ;)

I won't stand in the way of anyone who wants us to see fireworks from the best vantage point in the park (and I'm sure Scroogey McScrooge feels the same way). In the interest of full disclosure, I need to admit that we've viewed Disney's e-ticket in the sky from a prime spot once before (with My Pal Mickey). But if ya'll are able, we are more than willing.

And without a boat sinking, I don't think our trip can grade out higher than a C+.

I broke my foot while a cm, the 1st of July. Spent the whole day in health. Every single person who saw me said, "you know, You'll still have to work the holiday weekend".

Eh no reason to segregate I think, the hud is a small enough place and it's been awhile since I've seen Al, the Mice Chatters & ADDers who might be there so it might be nice to say hi. Besides, I think we're an easy to identify group.

Yes, fireworks spot snagging is a certainty. Afterwards, a Space Mountain Rainbow Glasses extravaganza is a definite. Everybody - get fastpasses and don't use them. (I will likely make a run from the hub for the group, my pockets bulging with APs).

Premium APs, that is, MBC. But, 'natch, we'll adjourn to the Grand Cal around happy hour. Keep in touch with the Not Afraid switchboard, and we'll hook up at some point near then.

Wow, this is going to be the swankiest meet in a long time. (I hope Disneyland's Second 50th the following week is not a disappointment by comparison.)

Well, having a cold drink later in the day still sounds like a wonderful idea, I think I will most likely be at the hub at noon. I can't stay for the whole nighttime extravaganza but I'm planning on being in the park. I want to see everyone a little longer than it takes to have a drink. :)

I just couldn't have had a better time and it was so great to finally meet Scrooge, Sac, Crystal, the little sactowns, and Capt. Jack. What a wonderful group of people you all are.

And Leo, you were definitely missed. We would have happily introduced you to a little concoction called a sidecar. You would have had a bunch of fun, then probably hugged the porcelain alter a bit later in the evening. ;)

Really sorry I had to leave early and my apologies to anyone who I missed saying goodbye to. I had to go into the office for a few hours tonight and prepare for next week, which starts in about 5 hours and is going to be the beginning of a very hectic week. Having said that, I can think of no better way of kicking off a week of hell than by blowing off some steam with fellow swankers.

Katie Sue, your daughter is a very charming young woman. Waiting to see Capt Jack Sparrow with the girls was one of the highlights of my day. I cant wait to see how those pics came out.

Goodness, that was a positively epic lounge session in the Grand Cal. Let's just put it this way...we were getting table service, from the Hearthstone bar tender himself, in the lobby. Yeah, epic.

Scrooge, it was an absolute plearue meeting you, despite your odd obsession with sack meat. Not sure what that was about. We'll have to do it again sometime, preferably somewhere that has a better grasp on the concept of a mint julep.

Sac and Crystal, great to see you again. Love your new hippie mobile. I think I got high just standing next to it . The kids are awesome, had a blast heckling the pirate sing-a-long with Todd. Hope the knees feel better soon.

I, too, felt a little pang for the epic loungeness vs. Park time. We usually sink more than one boat. But, really, there was such perfection in everything ... it's only the fault of planetary rotation that there wasn't time for more.

Hubness of happiness, Priceless Pirates Adventureing, Fine Dining at a New Eating Spot!!!!, Absolutely grand Grand Cal Lounging Extraordinaire, Fireworks Festivities of Fabulousness, and Equisitely Enhanced Space Mountain Magnificence.

I only took a few pics, but I thought I captured something intersting in the sociology of message board communities anyway.

First up, the Traditional Noon Meet at the Hub, with Al and his Mice Chat Minions:

Now between the two emerged yet another group from some other message board:

I took lots of pictures; they're downloaded and need to be uploaded with captions. Hopefully, some of them will be posted by this afternoon.

Yes, it was a gloriously fun day, but I'll save most of my comments to go along with the photo captions.

It was great meeting several swankers for the first time, and seeing so many others again. It's been a long time since I've had so much fun at the park doing what other Guests would call doing "nothing" or "very little."

It just proves that a LoT of good company can over-power the draw of the attractions that were all around us. But, I wouldn't call successfully sinking Pirates, enjoying lunch at the re-opened Cafe Orleans, lounging in the Grand Californian, camping out for and viewing "Remember...Dreams Come True" fireworks from The Spot, and riding Space Mountain with special glasses doing "nothing." :)

THANKS to everyone who was there in person (and in spirit)!

According to today's Al's Update (http://www.miceage.com/allutz/al071106a.htm), there have been dozens upon dozens of boats stuck at the lip of the first drop (and many at the second as well). Bah, our LoT sinking method is no longer unique ... and some of us (*cough*CP*cough*) can stop feeling bad about holding up the ride. It's been happening several times per day ... and without the, ahem, front loading we do with troublemaker intent.

In fact, far from fixing the problem we so emphatically and scientifically pointed out the day Pirates closed ... they have done the exact opposite of fixing the flume in that area. According to Al, they have installed new braking systems, gate controls, and water flow restrictions at the top of the drop ... and have been paying a severe price for that retarded decision. Al reports that they have taken to having a maintenance guy stationed in the darkness at that point in the ride (think Splash Mountain final lift) to be ready to push boats at a moment's notice.

No such person was stationed there on Sunday. In fact, if this has been going on with any regularity since the ride reopened, I am surprised at the unpreparedness displayed by the CMs. Far from getting a Kyle, we were treated to CMs who probably haven't been at their posts for more than a month. But, if the boats really are stopping at the drop several times a day, the CMs we encountered must have been hired that very morning.

Spoiler from MiceAge about the next movie and the ride In an announcement that took lots of people at Imagineering (WDI) and TDA by surprise, Walt Disney Studios Chairman Dick Cook, a former Disneylander who started his career 40 years ago as a conductor on the Disneyland Railroad, proudly mentioned to the TV cameras on the red carpet that next year Pirates will be getting animatronic versions of Keira Knightly and Orlando Bloom to celebrate the third movie.

One memory that's gonna stick from this meet was accompanying Scrooge on his first visit to the Mansion since he was 11...and being greeted by scores upon scores of crows lurking in every tree in the vicinity! Couldn't have been more perfect.

My pictures suck. I may post a few, but after reviewing them, I took lot of ass pictures.
Some of us might still like to see them. :p

I open this thread today, never having seen a picture of Scrooge.

Not to ruin your day, Scrooge, but you could be my dad's twin. Same hair in color and style, same glasses, same clothes, same build.....it was really, really eerie. Honestly, if you had a mustache, I would have a hard time telling pictures of you and my dad apart.

It was .....eerie.

Hard to believe I was ever that young, but here's the visual to prove it.

Taken maybe a month before that very DL visit...

It really was a wonderful meet. It was great to meet the new people and see everyone else again. I'm even glad I stayed long enough to take part in the ceremonial parking structure farewell (although I can't say I felt that way at work on Monday after four hours sleep).

My primary computer (containing most of my software and photo files--even though I have partial, external back-up) is being optimized and defragmented. It's taken almost two days so far. So, I plan to upload the rest of the photos after that computer is ready for use again. Thanks to you and everyone else for your patience. They'll be up prior to Comic Con. :)

Oh, and a HUGE thank you to iSM for the wonderful gift!!!
Oh yes.

iSm, you're a wonderful and thoughtful soul and you have a standing invitation for any party or get together I'm ever involved with. You are truly the host with the most.

(And a special thanks to BTD for making Cat feel better about dropping the gift after the hit-and-run by giving her gift to the eternally grateful SacTown Family.)

I'll put together some sort of trip report when my head clears a bit. But let me say now that the LoT meet was the most magical day of a truly magical trip. Spending time with old friends and making new ones was a LoT of fun...and whether the time was spent in the park or in the AP lounge matters not at all -- it was all wonderful.

Sam, thanks for making the trip out here. We had a lot of fun with you. Sorry about dragging you back out on your last night with the promise of fistfulls of Fastpasses only to discover the park was closing at 11:00 for the first time in recorded summertime history. Guess I should start reading the propaganda they pass out at the gate, eh? Oh well, we'll always have Space and Matterhorn.

I'll put together some sort of trip report when my head clears a bit. Based on what we sampled at the car, that'll be about...never.

I made a sidecar at home on Saturday. Yum.

Cat: Dad, you know that crazy lady with the red hair? I forget her name.
Me: Lisa.

We actually believe Sacramento is suitably near for a semi-annual visitation schedule, at the least..

(kids grow up so fast, and all - - certainly you wouldn't deny us the pleasure of seeing a few intermediate steps .... not to mention the other pleasures of your delightful company .... aka we miss you already)
