As you may recall from the I'm Grouchy thread, I was having PC troubles with regard to a sound card upgrade. Well, the bottom line is, my PC and motherboard are just old enough that it did not play well and could not be installed. In true Libra fashion, I procrastinated just long enough to pass the 30 day return date with buy.com. So, bottom line is I have this great sound card I can't use and I want it to go to a good home.

I bought it from buy.com and here the details (http://www.buy.com/prod/creative_sound_blaster_x_fi_fatal1ty_platinum/q/loc/101/PageFormat/40/imgNum/1/201887031.html#description).

THe box is opened, but all the goods are inside, silly me for assuming it would be no problem to install....

If you want this, $100 will get it to you (and $7 for postage), PM me.

Thanks guys!

wow... If I didn't just buy my watercooling rig, I'd hop on that in a heartbeat...

I'm no longer allowed to have fancy sound cards after the great fishing debacle of '97. :(

Ugh, you're two months too late, or I would have jumped at this offer.

Good luck, tho.

Aw damn! Feel free to pass the info along if you know a properly geeky person who would enjoy this.

I figured you'd not be a contender, not with the 9000 rig! :)

So, what are the details of the great fishing debacle? What's it got to do with not being allowed to have fancysound cards?

I assume "would not install", meaning it works, it just doenst play well with others?
(Read between the lines: I'm actually interested, but would love it if you could wait for payday)

Well..... Since you asked.....

Back in '97 I had my home office in a corner of the basement. Early one morning my lovely wife went down to start a load of laundry. As she was loading the machine she heard "Drip, Drip..." We had had problems with leaks (see pinhole leaks (http://www.wssc.dst.md.us/copperpipe/pinholescroll.cfm)) so she was concerned and started looking around. She could not find the leak but every 30 seconds or so she would hear "Drip Drip..." So she kept looking and looking.....

'97 Also saw the introduction of the first interesting massively multiplayer online game (mmog): Ultima Online. In order to create a kick-ass character you needed to raise you stats. One way to raise wisdom (or was it IQ) was fishing at the stream near town. I created a fishing macro (you could get away with that back then) and left it running all night. Each time it made a cast into the river you heard: "Drip, Drip..."

And she kept looking and looking...

The card and all it's parts installed, but the drivers would not. Apparently it was a conflict with my RAM and the motherboard.

Of course I can wait until payday, that is not a problem at all, I'm offering it up and want it to find a home in someone else's PC since mine won't be it. When I get a new PC I'll get it then! :-)

Let me know if you want it and I'll set it aside.

Moonliner -

Oh, the April Fools' jokes you could play......

However, it would require a desire to sleep on the couch for an indefinite period of time after said joke. ;)
