The Cemetery in Swank, comfort and portability

Now that we've been doing the Cemetery thing for a while, we seem to have a few things down. Then, there's a few other things we must still work on.

The good:

The nimi table that comes with my picnic basket.Last week, I used the new, lovely SCE Loto picnic backpack and found it really easy to carry and deal with. While not as swanky as my classic woven basket, it was incredible portable. However, it doesn't come with a table.

Now, beyond that, we've got the seating conundrum.

If we bring chairs, we are forced to sit on the side, however we would be comfy. I have stadium seats that work for about an hour, then I want out. ISM has been bringing a large bed-lounge pillow, but ut doesn't really stay propped up with nothing to lean against.

I'd like to keep the portability option in there as well.

One of the pool aior matresses with a back rest would be ideal, but I'm not gonna blow that thing up!

Someone brought a GIANT Love Sack last night which made me jealous, but who wants to carry that thing?

So, I really think this is our only comfort deficit at the Cemetery, Anyone have any ideas?

And yes, the seating connundrum is what has me most perplexed. Jealous as I was over the love sack, the ingeniousness of making all of our provisions PORTABLE is part of the swankly fun.

My pillow scene seems to fall apart only when we lose our back support in the screening transformation (for those in the dark, there's "picnic" mode and "screening" mode seating for the different stages of the cemetery events.)

I think what I'm going to try next is ballast ... stuffing that big duffel with rolled-up sleeping bags and such, so's we can lean against it. That may leave us back with 2-much-2-carry, but I'm gonna give it a go next time.




Of course, we're gonna need some sort of stadium seating plan for when we have big groups on the Giant Square o' Blankets.

Inflation is an issue since we usually walk in. I worry about the stadium seats/camp chairs because, that is similar to what we have and they aren't very comfortable. They actually cause slumping, which does me in pretty quickly. Although ours are not inflatable.

What I REALLY want is a Pool Float Chair. But, we've got the inflation issue.

Yeah, Chris is voting for that one and, checking around on prices, the $19.99 price is WAY better than any place else. I just wish the had more then bright blue. How is it supposed to match everything else?????

I love that little table. I should get one too, and we can have banquets.



I'm not sure which seating device appeals most, though it has to be of the back-support-on-the-ground variety, and not anything resembling a chair. I think if it sticks up higher than your own head would from sitting cross-legged on the ground, it's not fair to be in the non-chair section.

I'm skeptical whether inflation can work to solve the potential two-hour comfort zone. Detour last night was mere bush-league practice discomfort - - clocking in at 1 hour 15 minutes, pfft!

With the bulk of my 5'10" frame in the upper part of my body, my head will stick up over any seat back, I would suspect.

yes, but it's not fair to make youself even taller by adding legs to what you're sitting on.

Your head will always be higher than the back of your chair, but will it be higher off the ground than if you were sitting on your butt? I think fairness requires that we only ask those behind you to deal with your already freakishly tall-lady tassle of flaming red, middle-aged hair.

But the but of that chair is only 1 or 2 inches off the ground. I don't think it is too bad.

I've been looking for the "chair" I brought to the 4th of July BBQ last year. It was escentially cloth on a backrest. You sat on the ground and had a really nice backrest to lean against. I got it at Target, but I couldn't find it on Target.com. I'm sure they are already in the stores. Unfolded staduim seating or other padding should suffice nicely for butt paddage.

I went ahead and ordered two of those chairs. We'll see how they work out. I just can't do Stadium seating for the length of a movie. It bothers me after about 1/2 hour.

The great thing about that chair is the adjustable back. The seat is very low to the ground, and if you lean the back, well, back, you can keep your total height down.

I say: if they can have a butt-at-floor-level section, and a low-chair section, why cannot they also have a higher-type-sports-chair section? We have our beloved comfy sports chairs and wish we could use them.

We got our chairs today.

I like them. They are comfortable without being too obtrusive, they are easy to carry and low to the ground. I will give a full report on their usability after Saturday.

The one thing they are missing is cup holder..00..

They are currently set up in our living room (stylish!) and Chris found that they are difficult to extract ones self from. That should provide some interesting entertainment at the Cemetery.
