This morning I tried burning a CD of some stuff for a friend. My burner/burning software (Roxio 8 suite) rejected 3 brand new Sony CD-Rs before I gave up. The error notice was to the effect the CD was dirty or hand finger prints. None of them did.

I stopped this morning and picked up a box of Maxell CDs, to see if they work tonight (Maxell is my usual brand).

If these don't, can anyone recommend if a cleaner of some sort might be needed? I know I've seen them, but have never used one before. Any thoughts or recommendations?

I'll blow some canned air in there too.

Well, tis a mystery to me.

I went to the dreaded evil empire this morning for cleaning supplies and CDs (Wal-Mart) and picked up a box of Maxell CD-Rs. I just plopped one in to burn some stuff, not a problem at all, burned without so much as an error beep. I did not clean the drive bay (it was just fully cleaned at the geeks anyway), no canned air, nothing. I guess my PC does not like Sony CD-Rs, what's up with that? So, can I interest someone in a box-O-30 sony CD-Rs, cheap?

I like to burn my cds over a medium charcoal flame, no lighter fluid :)
