I'm excited, but then again I'm playing soccer 2x a week now, sometimes 3. I love playing and I love watching.

Most popular US pro sports bore me or I'm irritated with the players' crappy attitudes.

I'm rooting for USA and Germany. :)

I played soccer for 9 years...but could never watch it. In recent years, I've learned to watch a little, but I still don't sit through whole matches. But I'll probably try to watch at least some of the elimination rounds.

Ironically, the year the world cup was here, I was in Europe visiting France and England. That was great, especially as we watched the final match between Brazil and Italy from our hotel's Itallian restaurant, run by Brazilians. Rather amusing when the dude who was painted yellow and green, wearing nothing but a Brazillian flag and blowing a whistle was pouring our coffee the next morning.

I much prefer college athletics for just that reason. Not to say that crappy attitudes don't exist, but the coach has the authority to set rules and kick players off. Coaching at the pro level is mostly about ego management.

Look at what it took in Philly to get Terrell Owens booted off the team. But I derail....

While the US certainly has their share of rowdy fans, soccer hooligans take the cake.

I read about some guy from Brazil name Ronaldinho that Pele has called he best ever. I keep meaning to go over to youtube and watch some clips that were mentioned in the article. I guess the guy is pretty amazing.

While soccer bores me, athletes who are the best at their craft, whatever the craft is, impress me.

I love World Cup Soccer. Like Hockey, but on grass, and not as quick. But the tables can turn in an instant. :D

Exactly. I think I posted in another Thread that I had dated a pro-football (soccer) player from London. While it was exciting, and yes, he was quite yummy with the accent, complete dickiness negates all yuminess. Remember that folks.

He also felt the need to tell me, and quite often, how much American football & the Superbowl sucked. Don't even get him started on the World Series. Actually, all American sports. Dating tip: If you ever date anybody who begins a sentence more then once, "You Americans.." run. Run like the friggin' wind.

You just don't do that to a Dallas Cowboys fanatic. ;)
