I so wish I got what I saw last night on video.

In the kitche, we've got a trashcan wedged between the fridge and the counter. That keeps him block out from back there, where we keep paper bags that he'd happily shred, and would get behind the fridge. Ocassionally we forget to shove the can back in.

So late last night I heard him stepping on the bags, so I go to shoe him out of there. He sees me, looks at me for a couple seconds...then tries to bolt at full speed...only he's on the kitchen linoleum. So he tries to take the left and, straight out a cartoon, goes skidding across the floor, little legs pumping at full gallop with zero traction. He managed to gain enough traction just before sliding into the dishwasher across the way. I just about fell down laughing.

"Steer right to turn left!"

Well, Munchkin has officially forfeited his "behind the stereo speaker" privelages. When I woke up this morning, he wasn't out in the open, so I took a look in all his usual corners. No bunny. I thought I could hear him, but I couldn't see him. A more thurough second pass still turned up nothing...but then I took one more look behind the stereo...and see him clamboring to get out from inside the stereo cabinet :rolleyes:

Last week I had very carefully covered all the exposed wires back there with vinly tubing, and made sure to tuck anything else behind the cardboard that covers the back of the cabinet. I then blocked off access to the lowest opening of in that cardboard with an old CD holder. Well, last night it seems he figured out how to climb up on top of the holder and get into the cabinet. Thankfully, he selected a single cable to work on all night (and not a power cable), which I easily spliced back together. But he ain't gonna be getting back there no more.

Well, last night it seems he figured out how to climb up on top of the holder and get into the cabinet. Bunnies are wonderfully smart creatures. :evil:

He's so cute though. And, I bet that makes it much harder to get mad at him, because he's so darn cute. ;)

So we kiss him on the nose, come up with a new way to protect wires, and vacuum up bits of our carpet. :D

Ours would be awesome if she had a bit more freedom, but we'll have to wait until after the wedding stuff is gone in order to secure the place for free roaming again. There are way too many places and things for her to get/chew into right now. :(

Munchkin kinda wigged out a little yesterday. Out of nowhere, he started earnestly trying to flip over, or perhaps remove from his cage, his litter box. Then he seemed to be rather upset with the towels that were in there. Dunno what got into him, all that stuff's been there the whole time. He seemed okay with the litter box this morning, don't know what his feelings about the towels (which we removed) are.

Ever see anything like that, Dp?

I think he's trying to tel you he needs a bigger cage. Would you want to sleep next to the toilet? (Unless of course you imbibed way too much and either passed out there are felt it prudent to stay close by. ;))
Actually, rabbits often sleep in their litter boxes. A lot of people just fill the litter box up with hay, they'll happily spend a lot of time there.

But we don't even close the cage anymore. The only reason we have it out is to contain the food and bedding mess. He sometimes sleeps in there, but he'll also sleep behind the chair, behind the lamp table, on the front entrance linoleum, etc.

My rabbits had cages that wern't too much larger and they didn't have free reign. Cats will sometimes sleep in litter boxes too, IF they are kenneled. Otherwise, they run from the thing as if evil lurks there. (It does.)

Ever see anything like that, Dp?Yep. In my history of house rabbits, they've all done stuff like that. Our current little girl will keep her cage nice and tidy for a couple weeks, and then suddenly chuck the litter box, knock over the pellet food hopper, and even chew on the bars for a few days at a time, and then be nice and calm for a couple weeks again.

I think they get bored on occasion and like to "rearrange the furniture" in their immediate "home of their own".

I usually remedy these "periods" by getting a new toy. They love things that rattle and make a bit of noise - baby keys, some bird toys, etc.

Box 'O Fun (cardboard box with newspaper inside for digging and ripping)
Baby keys
Rattle shaped like a phone
Willow ball (he loves that one)
Munchin' sticks tied together
Toilet paper tubes for tossing and ripping
Shoebox for nibbling
Doormat Madness (loves to dig, munch, and generally go nuts on it)
It'd be hard to add more to the mix ;)

I have to admit that I've never been interested in purchasing a rodent, but that little guy is pretty cute. Perhaps a bunny might be a good choice for a pet......are there any odor issues with munchykins?None at all. Disneyphile pointed us to a great brand of litter/bedding that keeps his cage odor-free (we change his litter box at least once daily, and the bottom of his cage every 3rd day or so). That + a quick rinse of the litter box with vinegar (literally just pour a bit of vinegar in and swish it around) works a charm. And he cleans his own fur more than any cat I've ever seen, so his body has no odor (except when he's eating veggies and gets basil breath).

As GD said, it's not a smell problem at all. The problem is that he chews everything. :) Example: I'll walk into the room and he'll bound right over to start munching on my shoes while I'm still wearing them. I have to take them off and put them in another room or he will continue to try to destroy them the entire time I'm in the room with him, and no amount of disciplinary noises or pushing him away is going to make a bit of difference.

I can understand why most people keep them confined to a cage/room for most of the time and only let them out to exercise once or twice a day, but if we did it that way we'd be continually following him around making sure he's not getting into trouble anyway. As it is, the place is bunny proof (we think!) and we don't have to babysit him.
