This may have been posted in the other Pirates thread but I'm not reading it due to possible spoilers.

My theory is that the new Jack at the very end of the ride is the old AA that used to balance on the powder kegs. That's my theory anyway...
By the way, the ride closed around 2p.m. due to some technical failure and is not expected to reopen again today (but as always, who knows).

Hehehe, I arrived at the Park at 2:00 pm. Bah. Oh well, almost everyone from the night before's party that kept me away from the Park till 2pm also showed up a bit later and we continued our little party (albeit a little more burnt out) - and with some additional surprise guests who we haven't seen in a while. Pleasant surprise indeed.
We did get to sample the cuisine at the just-reopened Cafe Orleans, and a big thumbs-up on the food there. All-in-all, it's more momentous for me to have an enjoyable food location inside the Park than to ride Pirates of the Caribbean.
Alas, there will be no opportunities for me to get down to Anaheim till next weekend, so I'm calling all comers for early Saturday morning. Even if you've been on by then, come on by for MY first ride, heehehee.

We never even got in line. By the time we actually got to the ride, they had just told people it was not going to open back up again today.
We may make a sneak attack during the wek, but not if it is as hot as it was today. I reached my heat threashold today. I'm staying in AC for the rest of the summer.

Well, it's a far cry from when Indy's line did that, considering there isn't much room inside, or even in front of the attraction. The posted wait time was something like 1 hour 30 minutes. I'd guess it would be a bit longer (depending on how much of the queue they've allowed to form in directly in front of the entrance), but probably no more than 2 hours.

Wow. I just heard that the queue extends to City Hall!!
That must be for the complaints
Apparently it about a 2-hour line. The disparity between line length and wait time is probably a combination of Pirates' huge capacity (when it is running at capacity) and the fact that once the line gets away from the Pirates entrance it probably isn't that dense.
That said, last I heard it had shortened down to around the wait board but it might have lengthened again.

Do I care enough about the new pirates to drive to DL in traffic and wait for 2 hours in the heat and humidity? Or do I want to stay home in the relative coolness? Will the geek win out over the thermally challenged? Will the husband have influence either way?
Mousey Girl
06-26-2006, 03:13 PM
Well... Nick and I are already home. We got to the park at 7:45 and the entrance line was already to the CALIFORNIA sign. We knew better and waited near the Early Entrance gates. By the time 8 came, the line was backed up to the DCA gates. When we got in the security guard was telling the people running that they might as well slow down since Pirates wait was already at the 2 hour mark. At one point the line went under the left tunnel to the entrance gates. It did seem to be moving pretty well, but it made for a very crowded area. EVERYTHING was crowded. They finally did some switch backs of the Pirate's que in NOL Square, but the line was still well past the Carnation Cafe when we fought our way out at 10ish. DCA had just opened and their lines were still no match for DL. The trains were even uber crowded.
I am not a big fan of the crowds and the only thing I can equate them to was when the MSEP was "glowing away forever" push of 10 years ago.
Our ride of Pirates will have to wait for another day... :(

I've heard this before, but didn't know what it was. So hear it is: The most common source of rennet is the abomasum (fourth stomach) of slaughtered, milk-fed new-born cow calves or other young ruminants such as camels or goats. Traditionally rennet was prepared by washing and salting the stomachs of animals shortly after slaughter. The rennet was then hung up and dried until needed.
I'm making cheese from Kefir right now. It'a a natural form of bacteria and other enzymes that has been used for thousands of years that is Rennet free. A little like yogurt, and helps your digestion even more! :snap:

Yeah, the heat, the crowds ... not for me. Not for a ride that I'm destined to despise. Or even for one that I might like, but know every single detail about except for what my eyes alone can tell me.
Saturday morning is still my plan. I wasn't planning on getting there at 8:00, but if 9am seems like it would add more than an hour to my Pirates wait, I might consider getting there at opening.
I plan to be out of the Park by noon. If the heat and crowds descend before that, I will be leaving before that. I expect a long line for the ride, but I want the experience to be otherwise early-morningish at Disneyland.

Okay, we made it on last night. :)
It really wasn't that insane. I got to the structure at 5:30, parked in Pinnochio. No one on the tram, no one at bag check. A decent entrance queue, but not too bad. By 6:00, I was in line for Pirates. The line extended into Frontierland, I joined it just in front of the Golden Horseshoe. They were breaking the line to let foot traffic pass, letting a chunk of people at at ime move up to the next section (it was routed behind the petrified tree).
And, of course, it moved. As a matter of fact, it moved too fast. I was waiting for CP, who got off work an hour later than I, by the time she was parking, I was already at up to the Pirates entrance tunnel! Took only 25 minutes to get there, and with my iPod and the overcast sky, it was a breeze. So I stepped aside in the line to wait, and when she got there, jumped back in. From that point, it was only another 15-20 minutes. So 40-45 minutes total, not a problem.
Okay, so what did I think of the ride? It comes out a wash for me, which translates to "I'm happy that it wasn't ruined". There are things that I will miss for certain, and there are new additions that didn't particularly impress/excite me. But nothing is absolutely horrible. It remains Pirates, and for that I'm happy. There's a small nod to the one thing I'll miss the most, which softened to blow a bit...but I still don't like it. The new music is a tad heavy-handed in one scene. And the scene the iSm is already pre-grousing about is a mixed bag.
But that first Depp AA that everyone's talking about is amazing. And perfectly done in that it's added to an existing scene without removing or altering that which makes the scene iconic. And for that I applaud them. The same can't really be said for much of the other additions.
The flashiest of the new effects was indeed impressive...but pointless. I like the execution, I just don't think it needs to be there.
Ramble, ramble, ramble. The long and the short of it is...at least it's not a cross-eyed bride with an axe.

Before the first drop, the talking skull warns you that "Thar be squalls ahead". But "squalls" sounds remarkably like "squirrels".

I probably won't get to ride until sometime in August but I'm heartened that I have yet to year a single solidly negative reaction.I think you won't hate it either. The key is that even after all the changes, it's still Pirates. I thought the lighting, sound, set dressing, and effects have been improved in nearly every scene that wasn't truly altered. Most of the Depp additions seemed fine to me, although the last one seemed kinda thrown in there.
It's still Pirates, and I'll still ride it over and over.
Ok, I can read the other thread now.

Now THAT is a world class thread derailleur. Beats all that stuff about cheese and animal whatever three ways from Sunday. It was the handcuffs that put it over the top for me.

That's right, just like there are now hoards of 20ish'ers out there complaining that boat captains are NOT supposed to have guns, and pirates are supposed to chase food.
The guns were only gone for a couple years and the pirates are still chasing food.

Are you sure? (about the pirates)
But in anycase, the point remains that only some changes are accepted over the long term.
I haven't been on it so I'm not sure. But Adrienne Vincent-Phoenix has and she says they're still chasing food.
Name some 20 year old changes that are still widely complained about? By someone other than merlinjones.
But my point was that eventually these changes will become the only way that the majority of people remember the ride and as it calcifies in their brains that way they'll lament major changes.

It's the fatalistic note the OP sounded that fell flat for me. Yes change is inevitable and it can be for the best but that's not always the case and even if a bad change lasts for 20 Years and people grow up with it that does not make it a good thing. People complained about the river boat guns, and the PC makeover of pirates and now some of those changes have been reversed.
I was making no comment on the quality of the change. Just that, for the most part, people seem to think that whatever Disneyland was when they were 12 is the best it ever was (I know, that isn't true for everybody or for all things; thus it is a generalization).
After enough time has passed if you asked the average person whether they should put Country Bear back in their theater I posit the answer would be no simply because for the average person they'll only have known it as Pooh and that is comfortable for them.

Alex likes Pooh.... (Sorry my mind is stuck in another thread...)
As long as you will agree it's a generalization I'm good. There are still certianly some things (peoplemover, subs..) that people who never experienced still miss.

I am soooooo glad I didn't go to the Park last night. There's a report on MC that was copied from a post on MP that tells an absolute horror story of people being trapped on the ride for 90 minutes, people having panic attacks, children soiling themselves and SAP guests being carried out. Just the thought of being in that situation makes me shudder. I know I probably would've missed the terror but what an awful situation.
I would point out that there are about five other accounts in the MP thread from people who were on the ride then and nobody else seems to have experienced anything of the sort.

I have to agree, Diva is most anoying!
I got to the park about 7:30 pm and Pirates was down again. We got something to eat and checked it out at about 8:00 and it was open and had a 2.5 hr queue! We grabed a spot center front of castle for Fireworks, then a spot center on Rivers for Fantasmic! after that. Both shows were great! I hadn't seen them in a while (F! for a couple of years!) but I was with freinds from Liverpool, England. One of which had never been to the States or to any Disney park. He is a manager at a small park in England, and was blown away by Disney!
Anyway, we went on HM after F! to let the crowds die down and were ready to leave the park by then and didn't even notice how the queue was for Pirates after that, but my guess is that at about 11:30 there was no way we could get on it anyway.

We both thought they did a really good job with it. I was pleasantly surprised.
