We should all put each other as friends on Netflix. :)
Since we don't want to post our email addresses, please PM me if you have Netflix and we'll trade addresses there.
Post here so everyone can know who has Netflix, and we'll talk!

Count me in!
My email address is pretty public anyway.
alex@mouseplanet.com
If anybody wants to add me, that is fine (and I've rated about 2,200 titles I think), just edit the email it sends to identify who you are.

You can see their queue and make suggestions to each other.
You can kind of see their queueu but the only thing I ever pay attention for is you can see how they have rated movies and you can enter short blurbs explaining your rating that will be available to the other people you have as a friend.
The system tries to do a bunch more than that, but most of that is just fluff.
There is great value in knowing that I have a friend that loved Baby Geniuses.
Ah, I hadn't realized that they'd made the whole queue visible. When they first rolled it out a couple years ago it was just what the last few they had seen.

First of all, no, I don't want my queue visible, sorry.
Secondly, the only urge I have to rate movies is for the movie musings thread right here on the LoT. What silly irony it would be for me to now start rating movies on the netflix site just so that my LoT buddies could see them!

It appears you can have seperate queues for different purposes. That would be a PITA though. I just signed up again.
The separate queues can be pretty useful.
It was originally set up so different people in the house could have their own queue (I know several married couples that split their alotment). When a disc is returned from Queue A the next movie in Queue A is sent.
I used it for a while when I was watching a lot of TV DVDs. I would always either move the entire series up to the top of the queue and then I was stuck either with only that TV show to watch or constantly having to manipulate my queue. Instead, I put all the TV shows in one queue, assigned it one of my 4 DVD slots and so I always had one TV DVD and 3 movie DVDs going without having to keep a constant eye on my queue.
iSm: The rating is a simple click, you don't have to actually say anything if you don't want to. I was using it before the Friends thing was available because their engine actually does a fairly decent job of making recommendations based on what how you rated movies.

We've used the recommendations to lead us to new movies before. And we've never written anything, just clicked once to show how many stars we rate it. It's very satisfying when you return a really crappy movie and want to pan it with one click. :D
I like the idea of seeing what friends recommend. As for seeing my queue - what the hell can you be hiding on Netflix, Steve? I already recommended "Secretary" here. :p
I never knew about seperate queues. We've been rationing our TV shows manually (ok, we returned one, let's bump on up) which is a bit annoying. Thanks for the tip!

I'm enjoying this already. I type in "Metropolis" in order to suggest it (the movie came up in conversation at work today) and see this:
Alexander Stroup didn't like it.It's feeling like home already.
Egad. I changed my profile to get rid of the ander. Can you confirm for me that it is changed in your view?

Egad. I changed my profile to get rid of the ander. Can you confirm for me that it is changed in your view?Bwahahaha. We laughed pretty hard when we saw "Alexander Stroup". I don't know why it's funny, but it is.
Anyway, have to break it to you that no, it still says Alexander. Looks like the server needs time to catch up. Heehee. Egad!
If you could check for me tomorrow that would be great.
I don't actually have a problem with Alexander. I just consider Alex my compromise position so that I can ignore people who try to call me Al (and no, for anybody seeking controversy this is a lifelong thing). If they ask why I can tell them I already met them halfway.
There are four people who get to call me Al. Lani isn't even one of them. Anybody who wants to can call me Alexander (or Sasha) and I won't care. It just seems weird to have it on an informal display like Netflix.

Alexander, meet Jennifer and Gregory. Yeah, that's weird. :D
To totally derail - just today I finally finished up my passport change form so I can get my married name on it. I've been putting it off in order to switch to Jennie, but I've given up on that. Jennifer I was born and Jennifer I shall remain.

But what if she lets you call her Betty? Then will you let her call you Al? :D [/lame]
This sounds cool. I'm too lazy to do it right now, but I think my email is in my profile. Feel free to use it. I watch a fair smattering of lame movies though. You should know that now.

I think it's safe to say that now we know why iSm doesn't want anybody seeing his queue.

Hmmm, the separate queue thing would be useful for us just so we could rate movies separately. We often don't agree. But now with this friends thing, having a 2nd queue seems like a PITA.
ps.
Still says Alexander.

They've programmed in some fun quirks. My friends page has a "friends quiz" on it. Thought I'd share it here:
Love for Only One!
Marla only loved one of these DVDs and rated the others much lower. Which one of these DVDs did your friend rate a whopping 4- or 5-stars?
The Big Lebowski
National Lampoon's Animal House
Titanic
Major PayneGuess, then look at the spoiler for the answer!I guessed Big Lebowski but was wrong - it's Animal House. She gave Lebowski one star! :p

Lol, it's cuz I signed up with a credit card that just has his name on it. He is so bad about checking his email, and I really like to know when they are shipped. We just signed back up. I'm hoping this time we will actually return the movies so we can get more.

As soon as I get my problems with netflix worked out, I'm in. Right now, I'm getting about one of every four titles shipped to me. The others show as returned in my qeue a few days after they have shipped. I've talked to netflix, I've talked to the post office. It is really frustrating and if it doesn't improve, I might as well cancel. At this point, I'm just keeping the post office busy without any additional added benefit.
If you want you can create separate lists and just not assign any of the DVD slots to it. This would allow you to rate movies separately but still only manage one queue, people would just have to add both accounts.

I just found the Manage Friends screen where you can edit how your friend's name appears. I fixed Traci, but couldn't bring myself to modify Alexander. Heh.

I'm looking at Gregory's queue and am wondering if some of these film gems haven't ever been seen by you or if they are rewatches (I know it's not really a word). I gasped a couple of times thinking, 'Tell me they never saw that!' :D
Hee hee I like this part:

Alex and I both hated:
The Longest Yard (http://www.netflix.com/MovieDisplay?movieid=70021637&trkid=193010)
The Stepford Wives (http://www.netflix.com/MovieDisplay?movieid=60034580&trkid=193010)

First of all, no, I don't want my queue visible, sorry.
Don't worry, we won't laugh. If you don't share, we'll be forced to guess and make up movies that we think are in your queue.
innerSpaceman's Netflix queue:
1. The Smurfs Meet the Snorks
2. The Land Before Time Part 22 - Littlefoot's Hang Nail Adventure
3. The Notebook 2 - (Movie description: Noah and Allie find a treasure map and go on a quest. Featuring Harvey Korman reprising his voice character, the Great Gazoo.)
4. 40 Pounds of Trouble - (I'll let you guess why I put this one on the list.) ;)
5. Crash 2 - Cruise Control
And, to be fair, I'll let you all in on my queue at the moment:
1. Dealing With Anger (The movie version starring Sean Penn, Naomi Campbell, Bjork, Nick Nolte, Jane Fonda and Gary Busey.)
2. F.A.G.S. (Kind of like D.E.B.S. and B.A.P.S. combined)
3. Listen Here, See (Old 30's B/W movie starring over-rehearsed actors that smoke a lot and talk too fast. They say things like 'Why I Oughta' and 'What are you? A chicken? Are ya yella?' and 'I'm gonna sock you in the nose, pal.'
4. The Phonebook - Unabridged (A British Merchant Ivory film sans Merchant where Judi Dench, Emma Thompson, Maggie Smith, Colin Firth, Ian McKellan, Ian Holm, Imelda Staunton and Alan Rickman read phonebook ads to each other in an abandoned castle.)
5. Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid 2 and Thelma and Louise 2
6. The Wild Bunch 2 - Wilder and Bunchier
:D

Aw damn! I can't mojo you again! GC you're priceless!
But, back to 40lbs of trouble, stinky movie, until they get to Disneyland.....it's one of my guilty pleasures, this movie. I'll watch it, just for the vintage footage

I saw this awhile back on either TCM or AMC I forget which. And I thought the same thing: stinky. Then all of a sudden everyone's running around at Disneyland! Then I was like 'Waitaminute! Slow down. Should have taped this. Waitaminute! Go back. Dang it.' :)

I love 'Life with Father'! I was hesitant to buy this one because I heard the transfer to DVD was really bad. Any comment on that?
