According to the attorney's statement there was a perscription- but his Dr's ordered it in their name for his privacy. I don't know the legality of that- but the OP is misleading- I would say.

The political shock-jock's lawyer, Roy Black, said the prescription was written in Limbaugh's doctor's name "for privacy purposes." The radio host was released without being charged and investigators confiscated the little blue pills.

Mike Edmondson, a spokesman for the state attorney in Palm Beach County, said it's often legal under Florida law for a doc to prescribe medication in a third party's name, if all parties are aware and the medic documents it correctly. The sheriff's office is continuing its investigation

Just out of curiosity is a prescription even legally required if you get pills directly from the doctor? I thought it was just required to get the pills from a pharmacist.

I've many times received antibiotics directly from a physician (in the form of a stack of sample packets) without ever receiving a prescription and with no prescription information on the packaging.

Would the whole thing have been avoided if he had just taken the pills out of the bottle and put them in a baggie? Or one of those day-by-day pill sorters?

Good point.....with my medical issue over the last few years, I've had probably 10 different drugs from docs as samples without a perscription just so I could see if they worked.

Oh, I hadn't paid enough attention.

I assumed he had been stopped at a regular baggage check and didn't realize it was going through customs returning to the country. I still don't know about the larger prescription-requirement issue but it is definitely doofus-ish to try and enter the country with drugs you can't prove are authorized.

I used to listen to Rush...read his book...liked him even when I disagreed with him because he was entertaining. Of course that was a long, long time ago, during the Republican Revolution around '94.

Now he's just pathetic and an embarrassment to himself and everyone else as well. I wish he'd go away.

In fact I find that most people who bitch about him have never actually bothered to listen to him. (I have no idea about any of you-this is just my experience)

If I discounted everyone who was a hypocrite I wouldn't listen to anyone, including myself. Does making a judgement about what is wrong automatically make you a hypocrite when your own failings are exposed? Probably. Such is public life. Like I said, I think the same of every talk host I've ever heard (I left it at 99% simply because I haven't heard all of them). So I don't listen to talk radio.

Yes, we're all at least partially hypocritical. But it's the combination of condecension and hypocriticality that put talk hosts in a special class of blech to me.

I could go find truckloads of codnescending quotes from any talk show host you name. It's what they thrive on. Kinda like the interview with Jerry Falwell I heard this morning where he happily admitted that he says half the crap he says solely because it puts his name in the paper.

But I really don't care enough to read what they have to say.
