The El Capitan will be screening a digital enhanced version of "The Little Mermaid" from September 7 through September 17, presumably as part of the re-release of the film on DVD.

The El Capitan website doesn't mention it (and why doesn't it?), but at the El Capitan box office, it mentions that there will be a panel discussion on the first night, September 7. It also mentions that you can see Ariel live, presumably at each showing.

I'm disappointed that we won't be able to go for the panel discussion because we already have plans that night, but we'll probably see the film there during its run.

Here's the link to the main El Capitan site, and from there, you can go to tickets and showtimes: http://disney.go.com/disneypictures/el_capitan/index.html.

This is a fave of a certain group of my friends. We've seen it to death on video. And so, when it was re-released to theaters about, oh, a decade ago - - we felt silly going to see it.

We were bored ... for about 10 minutes. Then it sucked us in. Seeing it on the big screen again was awesome, and it will go down as one of my favorite ... and most pleasantly surprising ... times at the movies.

I will no doubt be seeing it at the El Cap.

(Alas, The El Cap did not exist in its El Cap form when the movie was first released. The Little Mermaid played on the vastly bigger screen of the Cinerama Dome ... and I doubt we'll ever see it looming that large again in our lifetimes.)

It's being re-released on DVD? Yay! BT has never seen this one, for reasons I can not even begin to fathom.

I know that I must have seen it at one point in my life...but I can't recall a single part of that movie...heck, I don't even know what it is about...

Tight story, songs that move the plot, great characters that aren't annoying, and gorgeous animation. It's obvious why this was the movie that saved Disney.

Give this a full viewing; it deserves it.

I know this may be hard to fathom, but I don't want to be suckered into buying this movie again on DVD. I'd have to sea a drastic change in film quality to shell out my clams to but this one again...

I don't own it. There's a VHS copy somewhere in my family's posession (at either my parents' or my sister's place), but I will definitely need to purchase this new DVD release.

I bought some Disney's Gold Collection DVD version. It's fine, but they included a Jodi Benson video during the credits. Bleh. Maybe I will get the new version if it doesn't have that...

I agree! King Triton is a perfect representation of patriarchal oppression in a climate of mysogenistic subservience.

"Fathoms Below" is the song that opens the film.

Lyrics were provided (along with those for 'Whale of a Tale') for singing shipboard on the Whale Watching adventure, back when we had monthly swankings.

I think it's all of these things for me:

-the low cut shirt
-the ocean front property
-owning his own ship
-doesn't mind that a girl doesn't help him row a boat they're both in...

Oh, and he likes dogs, too. :)

I totally squished up my face and said 'D'oh' outloud when I read that. I thought it, but I didn't wanna post it. :D
