Some of LoT's favorite people here (http://www.lufkindailynews.com/opin/content/news/opinion/stories/2006/07/14/20060714LDNbonner.html)
Hmmmm-I wonder who the 10 most loved would be?

In this crowd, I'm sure Walt would make that list

I think it would be more of a challenge (and probably more interesting) to find a list that ALL LoTters could agree on. I doubt this list is it.

I would not accept the challenge of trying to compile such a list. uh-uh.

Heh- so list your top 10-
I wonder if anyone here would have 10? Or admit to "hating" people.

We're too diverse of a group to have 10 that everyone agrees on. Maybe 3 would be a better number.

Really- that would be interesting to see.

Can they all be dead? I'm thinking Hitler, Stalin, and Mussolini might get agreement, but who knows. Amongst the living? I don't know if even one is possible.

Paris Hilton?
Scrooge McSam

You may be onto something, LSPE ;)
I wouldn't agree with Mussolini. Compared to the other two he was tin-star at best. We've seen his equal many, many times.
I find that I can only truly hate someone when I believe they are committing evil and actively understanding of that fact (a lot of evil has been done by people with good intentions). Therefore my list is:
Mr. Rogers
David Duchovny
Ingvar Kamprad

Osama?

For example:
Paris Hilton = waste of time

I don't hate anyone on that list....sure there are a few who I think little of; but not actually Hate.

Therefore my list is:
Mr. Rogers
David Duchovny
Ingvar KampradNot Duchovny! Is it because you want Tea?
Next time I see you, I will sing "David Duchovny why don't you love me?"
I might hate Ann Coulter if I paid more attention to her. She seems to revel in hating others.

10 most hated- American/Non-American Living/Dead?
Not Duchovny! Is it because you want Tea?
No, because back when he was more famous than her (as opposed to now when I am almost more famous than him) he was for a while the sole reason anybody knew her name. Except for in Spanglish I find her incredibly annoying.
Since I have to belief that Duchovny knew he was actively propping her moment in the limelight that is knowing evil. Therefore I can hate him.

Last year on a flight from Houston to Baltimore, I sat next to two young lawyers that claimed to be part of Lay's legal team. After several minutes of arguing, one of the lawyers pointed to a United States map on an airline napkin and asked me, “Is this South or North Dakota?”
Heaven help Ken Lay was all I could think as I answered, ‘‘No, it's Oregon"
Wow! I have to wonder though; if they thought that Oregon was North Dakota what would that make California?

I find it hard to believe that story since it implies Ken Lay's lawyers flied coach.

I've sat here for a good 15 minutes thinking about this. I cannot come up with the name of one living person that I hate. Yeah, I could throw out the Hitler card, the Pol Pot card, etc., but as far as living people, I can't think of anyone. The only person that even comes close is Fred Phelps, and possibly Osama. They are a product of their religious beliefs though, and I still find it hard to hate them.

What on earth did Mr. Rogers do to you, Alex?
What on earth did Mr. Rogers do to you, Alex?
He took the side of Sony in Sony v. Universal Studios which allowed development and manufacture of VCR technology to progress unabashed causing a boom in pornography like our world has never seen.
Oh wait. I love Mr. Rogers. I meant to say Mrs. Ramsey, my 9th grade Earth Sciences teacher.

I, too, never like to use the word "hate". It's a strong & powerful word. I like to say & think kind thoughts about people! :)
Having said that, all of roads of vile disgust lead to OJ. That sinister, low-life sh*t bag.

Umm, I'm going with Connie Chung. Her more than Maury because she at one time did something respectible before the abomination that is/was "Weekends with Maury & Connie".

eh, I dont really 'hate' anyone.
wish them ill? yeah
would like very much to bludgeon them to a gooey puddle with a frozen leg of lamb? sure
could watch them tumble down a 12 story flight of stairs and get a really good laugh out of it?
undoubtedly.
but not 'hate'
I knew who she was before she even met Duchovney (I miss The Naked Truth).
I did too. But the whole marriage and extension of her time in the spotlight was evil. I mean, if anybody would understand just how grating she is, I expect it to be her husband.

The definition of "Hate" has changed over the years I believe: Didn't it once mean simply to "like less" than something else?
If so then I hate every movie I've ever seen except All About Eve. And all breakfast cereals other than Honey Bunches of Oats.
I think it has always meant something much stronger than what you describe. I try to separate hate of action from hate of the actor. Something of a hate the sin, not the sinner approach.
I also think there is something inherently different in meaning between when a person says "I hate Hitler" or "I hate George Bush" and "I hate disco" or "I hate raisins in bread pudding."

"If anyone comes to me and does not hate his father and mother, his wife and children, his brothers and sisters—yes, even his own life—he cannot be my disciple"...Luke 14:26
Ive always took this to mean "like less". Because I don't think anyone really thinks Jesus was saying to actually "hate" anyone.

I hate human stupidity, irrationality, over-dramatics, fear, reactionist tendencies, and human hatred itself, amongst a million other things.
Individual people pale in comparison to such concepts. Yes, they are broad and vague and mean different things to different people - but still, I hate all of the sucky weaknesses of humankind.
We could be masters of our fates, if only we weren't so petty, forgetful, lazy, and unable to work together.
Hitler was a bad guy but all the stuff above is what really killed 6 million Jews then, and continues to kill people all over the world constantly. If you're not dead, you're still a victim to human faults, both yours and the faults of those around you, and you'll still be tortured because of them.
You want to talk about real hate? That is what I hate.
tracilicious
07-15-2006, 11:04 PM
I agree with CP. I have a really hard time truly hating Hitler. He was a lunatic, but did he really kill six million jews? No. I doubt that he personally killed a single jew. Thousands of soldiers killed millions of jews and others. Neighbors turned in neighbors, family members turned each other in and watched their loved ones be carted of to concentration camps. All of those people had a responsibility to stand up and say, "I don't farking think so, stop torturing and incinerating people," but very few did. Because of exactly the reasons CP gave above.
I hate stupidity.
ETA: Just to clarify, I think Hitler was a despicable person. Hate isn't really the right word for how I regard him, though.
