Okay, some random talk in other threads has outed certain watchers. I have been watching. :)
I like Travis. He's a cutie. Heidi is an awesome dancer as well.

Travis is okay, but he's no Benji! I am still crushed by the breakup of the Benji and Donyelle pairing.

Heidi and Benji were amazing last night. I voted for them both! :D

You're voting? I haven't voted at all.
I, too, love Benji, and Heidi's amazing.
Natalie shouldn't have been wearing that knee brace last night. You wear braces in class and rehearsal, but unless your costume can cover it, you take it off for performances. A few minutes with it off isn't going to matter since you're going to do all the motions anyways. Besides, it looks bad and people looking for dancers don't want to hire anyone with an injury.

I hate that they're rerunning the results shows, but I was glad to see the Rennaissance corset zombie techno number again. That was a lot of fun. Tonight's ensemble number is bound to be a disappointment.

Why is this show so much fun and American Idol, same station, sucks?
Anyhow, Benji and Heidi were so amazing, there just aren't words that can describe it. If Benji doesn't win, it will be a travesty.
I missed that Natalie had a knee brace, but then, I can't tell her and other not-Donyelle-or-Heidi girl apart, nor would I have remembered her name if you hadn't mentioned it.

Surprisingly, I didn't have to hit redial more than twice I think. It's definitely not as crazy as the few times I've tried to vote for Idol.
I was a bit surprised to see her wearing the brace with no mention of why she was wearing it.
On a separate note, Nigel's teeth scare me.

I'll fess up too, I'm watching it. I like pretty much all of the contestants, but as far as I'm concerned Benji has this whole thing wrapped up. He doesn't simply just have the skills, the guy is also a total blast to watch. The fun he's having and the joy he's feeling to be doing this just pours through the TV, and that's hard to resist. His footwork last night was freaking incredible! Lots of fun. I didn't think I'd like this show, but it turned out to be a fun summer show. Not exactly Idol, but fun all the same.

I didn't watch last season and I don't know why I'm suddenly in to it. I was just looking for mindless non-reruns to watch after class and got sucked in. I like that unlike other shows, these judges actually give constructive criticism, not just clever, snotty sound bites.

I'll take this over Idol any day.
I do disagree with tonight's results, however. Natalie should have gone home before Allison. Although I don't love watching Allison, I think she is a bit more versatile. Ivan should have been in the bottom two tonight--he should have gone home a couple weeks ago.
Prudence
07-27-2006, 11:39 PM
Ivan is a bit of a puzzle. He'll have a really killer week, then suck, then do well again. I thought he did pretty well this week. Although given overall performance I would have put him in the bottom two. I think Ryan was the right choice to go home tonight. I don't think he's terribly versatile and frankly his specialty style doesn't float my boat.
I was sure Donyelle would be in the bottom two, but I'm glad she wasn't.
Matterhorn Fan
07-27-2006, 11:48 PM
Ryan has some great potential--he's likely to get a job with a modern dance company or, if he takes partnering classes and works in finishing his lines, he might do well in a professional ballet company.
I was suprised that Allison was in the bottom two. I was more suprised that the judges said that if Natalie went home tonight, that America would have gotten it all wrong. After all that "Allison's our star" stuff....it just didn't match up for me.
Donyelle should have been in the bottom two, but she's got a fan base. With Allison gone, more votes might go to Natalie, which probably won't help Donyelle. She really needs a fabulous week next week.
I agree that Ivan's had his moments, but I'm not seeing a professional dancer when I watch him. I'm seeing a kid that fakes it pretty well.

Don't forget to watch tonight!
It would be impossible to forget! This is my must see teevee this summer.
(followed by hell's kitchen and project runway, although they're not nearly in the same league.)

Hell's Kitchen hasn't been that exciting to me. The menu's the same, the "set" is the same, the customer crap seems very scripted, the challenges are very similar, the profanity just gets to be too much after a while. I want to like it again, but I'm pretty "meh" about it.
Haven't seen Project Runway.
Let us know what you thought about tonight's show...
My predictions after tonight:
Bottom two: Natalie and Donyelle; Ivan and Travis
Leave this week: Natalie and Ivan
Final two: Benji and Heidi

Heidi and Travis were awesome tonight!
Benji doing hiphop is just painful to me.
Matterhorn Fan
08-02-2006, 07:51 PM
Agreed! He makes faces. I think it was impressive the first week because no one thought he could possibly move like that. All his hip-hop since has not recieved such great comments.
I didn't watch Natalie and Ivan tonight--I'm bored by Ivan and the knee brace he was dancing with tonight.

I was going to great lengths to avoid cleaning today. So great lengths that I turned on the TV! :gasp: I watched 3 back to back episodes of Project Runway. Now, I want to watch it toight.

Be sure to watch So You Think You Can Dance. It's better. I need someone to join me in hating that knee brace.
Prudence
08-02-2006, 09:53 PM
Yeah, I think Natalie and Ivan will be the ones to go. Ivan has actually done much better than I thought he would. He picked up the non-hip hop styles better than his demeanor would indicate. But, ultimately, the other guys are better. Natalie dances well, but her solos are starting to look the same, and it looks like she's just making it up as she goes along. The tumbling routine doesn't do it for me.
Benji is just too "white" to hiphop, I'm afraid. He gets the moves mostly right, but he's just too happy and silly to pull it off. Although he does manage to pull off the ballroom mood. Hmmmm.
I still like Donyelle better than Heidi. Heidi's probably technically better, but I think Donyelle is more interesting.
And if Benji doesn't win it will be a huge upset.
Stan4dSteph
08-03-2006, 10:12 AM
Did you vote? I voted for Travis and Heidi (multiple times!). I M TEH FNGRRRRRRL!
Ivan had better be the one to go. If Travis goes, it will be the worst case of fangirls gone bad. Ivan is not as skilled as Travis and is really became apparent last night.
Benji will most likely win, as he probably has the biggest fan base at this moment. He's also very good, don't get me wrong. I just think Travis is giving him a run for his money in versatility.
Prudence
08-03-2006, 10:53 AM
I never actually vote. Watch it, rant about it online - sure. Vote? Well that would be consorting with the masses!
I think overall this competition has been relatively skill-based as far as voting is concerned. Now, this is so far. So far there may have been differences of opinion, but I don't think someone really stellar got sent home in favor of someone who sucked but was prettier.
I don't know why Travis doesn't do it for me. He did a great Broadway number the first week, and he's got some great arabesques and other lines. And it's not that he lacks presence...but I think he lacks some of the stereotypically "masculine" presence. Maybe he just needs to do a tango. Has he done tango? I can't remember.

I'm glad the right people went home last night.
As MF told me on IM, what was with Mia? She seemed to rip the girls to shreds, but then seemed soft on the guys later. She didn't even say anything bad to Ivan!
Matterhorn Fan
08-04-2006, 11:30 AM
I still think that during the commerical break, one of the other judges must've told her to cool it off.
What was even stranger was that when Cat was rehashing everything that was said the night before, she was repeating favorable comments that Mia had made. I speculate that PMS may be involved.
Seriously, though, if the judges want to rip them to shreds, that's fine, but they ought to do it right after the performances, not just before one of them leaves the show. At least let them leave on something resembling a high note--at least this late in the competition.
Does Cat Deeley bug anyone else?
Prudence
08-04-2006, 12:21 PM
Could be worse - at least she's not Seacrest.
I couldn't BELIEVE how harsh Mia was being! I wanted to reach through the screen and smack her. I thought it was totally uncalled for. It was like she'd watched all their tapes over and over and put together a list of all the stuff that wasn't totally perfect and couldn't wait to get it on the air.
And I think I figured out what bugged me about Natalie - all the floor writhing. It's one thing that Heidi's routines all look Latin Ballroom - that's her speciality. I'm not aware that Natalie's style requires her to writhe on the floor. It gets old and seems really gimicky.
But, she's gone now!

I was wishing you were in the same time zone so Steph & I had someone else to be catty with!
If she'd done last night's solo on her first audition, they would have torn her to shreds and sent her away.
She'll make an awesome video girl, though. Or maybe not. Maybe the linkes of Britney and Christina would be afraid of being upstaged.

Okay, as Matterhorn Fan knows, I voted for Travis like a teenage fangirl last night. I think I must have dialed his line about 20 times. "Thank you for voting for dancer number 3."
Travis was great last night. The judges were right about the group number - he totally stole it. I loved that group number by the way.
I'm actually considering getting tickets for the touring show. They go on sale this Saturday. I will have to bring earplugs to drown out the high pitched screams if I do go to the show.

You mean you're not going to go see the winner in Celine Dion's show?
Prudence
08-10-2006, 01:28 PM
I'm considering going to the tour, too.
As MF knows, I have issues with the costuming. What was up with putting Donyelle in the high-waisted pants over and over again? Were they concerned we might not notice she is not a stick? That we might miss the deliciously round hiney? ARG! Scary old guy judge had been so great at complimenting her and saying she's not too fat to dance, but apparently the costumer disagrees. At least she looked hot in the last number, when Heidi had to wear scary leg warmers and one of those carwash curtains.
So, I was torn. I personally think Donyelle is extremely cool and I'd like to hang out with her personally, but she's technically the weakest. Travis is technically the strongest, but he does nothing for me. Pretty, but insubstantial. I just don't get a thrill from watching him. Benji makes me want to get out there and dance with him and I love that feeling. I love watching him. He's hands down the best entertainer, and not bad on technique. Heidi is absolutely the most improved. She went from a "oh, she's in this?" non-existent blip on the radar to Wow! I think she might be the most deserving of the rest of them.
So, I couldn't make up my mind. And I didn't vote, again.

Maybe it's good for Travis though. He won't be a slave to the evil Celine Dion for a year. I still like him better.
Prudence
08-17-2006, 07:41 AM
Yay! My favorite won! That never happens! MF and I were discussing how well-spoken they all were - as opposed to Celine, who sounded like a robot and was clearly reading the cue cards. Donyelle made me a little teary and I hope she keeps dancing.
Now, do I get tickets for the tour or should I just stalk the stage door?
