GD bought pluots (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pluot) this week. If you're unfamiliar with them, they're pretty creepy fruit. When you bite into it it looks just like red, raw, dripping flesh, complete with arteries. Tastes like a plum though.

The real story here though is that the usual little sticker on our fruit has a "Disney Garden" logo and a picture of Pluto. Get it - Pluto, pluot?

Has this Disney Garden thing been going on for a while or is it new? I can't find a thing on it online.

It's only a couple months old, though Disney announced the first such partnership in Europe with Tesco. It was about the same time the dissolution of the Disney/McDonald's happy meal partnership was in the news a few months ago.

Here's an article (http://www.producenews.com/storydetail.cfm?ID=6080) about the announcement of the U.S. partnership (with three companies: Crunch Pak, Imagination Farms, and Ito Packaging). Apparently as part of this first deal fruits seen are peaches, plums, nectarines, Pluots, California cherries and California blueberries.

Hey CP, I just picked one up on Friday, but still have to try it. I thought it was interesting also. Mine needed a couple more days to ripen. So I'll try it tomorrow.

Funny thing, I thought it was a Pluto and not a plout! My eyes played tricks on me.

If you mean the thread title, no.

Am I the only one who gets the pun?

Depends on which on you're talking about. The best course is to explain which one you mean so that we can all pretend we got it even if we didn't.

I wasn't aware of the rule to, upon getting a pun, immediately post "A pun! I get it!"

Alex

Yeah, I got that one but thought enough of CP to assume it was unintended.

I think we need pun rules inplemented immediately.

Matterhorn Fan

I think we should let everyone "get" the puns and feel superior to those who choose not to post an announcement that they "got" the pun. Everybody wins, right?

What's a pluot anyways? I get the plum part, but what's the ot? Apricot? Cumquat? Squat?

mousepod

apricot. but I like "squat".

I thought a pun in the thread title was nearly mandatory. Simply explanatory titles such as "Disney Garden" or "Pluto/Pluot tie-in" are boring.

I wonder why NA thought she was the only one who got the pun. The rest of you should feel insulted :pI wasn't aware of the rule to, upon getting a pun, immediately post "A pun! I get it!"Exactly.

Maybe I should add "Ha ha I got the pun" posts to the "words I'm sick of on LoT" thread ;)

I thought I was the only one who got the pun because it took me, (uh, how long has this thread been up?) to get it.

Life is really exciting when epiphanies come late. ;)

My kid sister calls them "idiot's revelations". Hmmm.... maybe I need to start a thread...

So long as it's not Old Yeller dog food, I'm OK with the branching.

Old Yeller dog food is incredibly stupid but at the same time the Disney fruit alliance in the UK was announced it was also announced that due to the success of the product in the United States it was expanding to UK.

Maybe people feed it to their dogs as a warning of what will happen if they don't behave.

It's the coupon in the bag for the free shotgun that bothers me.

I mean is that for real, or a joke? I'm pretty darn gullible (I thought those were REAL church signs for weeks!), but would someone realy make Old Yeller dog food? I'ts like why bother, their just gonna die anyway!

And yes, I got the tital pun. The fruit never falls far from the tree, you know.

Speeking of which, I'm eating the freeky fruit right now. Tastes like a plum to me. Where's the Cot? I got ripped off, no cot. Figures. That's my life, always getting the short end of the fruit. Maybe it's not ripe enough. I had a hard time deciding whether to get the soft ones or not, I was afraid they were over ripe. So I got a red one like the picture at the store.

They could have called it an Aprium. Or a Cotum. Maybe I should plant the seed and see what I get! Or maybe not, the Disney police might be all over me for patent rights violation.

Ok, the fuit is done. Not bad for a plum, but not woth the $ per Lb. if you can get a decent plum.

Now the Grapples are pretty good! An apple with a slight grape flavor. More of a light floral realy. Again pretty pricey, but worth an occasional indulgance.

I should have said "produce a bunch of fruit puns."

But I've been quoted, so I can't pretend like it always said that.

Lettuce harvest a new crop of puns, shall we? :D

Laws of the Pun Harvest:

1) We only reap the kind of puns that we have sown.

2) We reap puns in a different season than when we sow.

3) We reap more puns than we sow.

4) We reap puns in proportion to what we sow.

5) We reap the full harvest of puns only if we persevere.

6) The bad puns will always come to harvest all on their own.
