Okay, I tried this a year ago...with poor results. So I'm not holding my breath. But I have once again set up a fantasy football league at yahoo. If you're interested, let me know and I'll send you the particulars. If you're a football fan and have never played fantasy football, this is a great, fun way to enjoy the sport. The league is free, and simple to play (if you know football). It can be a ton of fun.
Do you have to be hyper involved to play? I was always put off by the various work leagues because everybody took them way too seriously for me.
That's fine but I didn't join in because I know how differing levels of involvement kind of ruins it for everybody. But if a more laid back approach to things is fine then I'd probably be interested in giving it a shot.

Laid back is cool. I don't do much, I just keep an eye on my team, making sure I'm not leaving injured players in my starting lineup, and moving guys with major injuries off my roster. I don't spend much time researching, or crafting trades or anything.
Then I'm interested enough to give it a shot.

I did it last year....um, sort of. I signed up and never looked at i again. So I guess you don't have to be very involved.
I don't think I'll even go that far this year....no fun having someone in the league that doesn't do ANYTHING! Sorry about last year, GD.....

No worries Schaivo. You weren't the only one (I think there were 3 of us that paid attention last year).

How many teams would make a decent league? I don't think three is the answer.

Pace yourself, Lumbo. Football season is still a month away.
Seriously, join GD's league.

5 minimum, 8-10 is ideal, imo. Don't hesitate to invite friends who might be interested.

GD ~ you totally rock to send the invite.
there is just no way i can commit any time to the league. i'm sure you didn't know, but, i am a baseball fan/former season tix holder...used to follow each and every game (radio-tv-in person), read every word in the paper, new all of the stats, collected all the schtuff ... in fact, my email addy reflects my passion for baseball.
however,
the last two years, with this job sent from Heaven, i am lucky to have a pair of clean socks to put on in the morning, anything fresh in the fridge, or time to message my boyfriend's sore shoulders from a weekend of outdoor activities!
(i use to be able to tell you the hometown of each player and the first name of his wife...now, it's more like who's on first?)
i will gratefully decline your kind invite.
p.s.
(back to baseball for a moment)
with the massive celebrations occuring (on Live TV) in the streets of Miami (reacting to news of Fidel's health), perhaps we will soon have a new, untapped source of baseball talent. coolness.

NP, totally understandable (though I will point out that the beauty of fantasy football, vs. any other fantasy sport, is that you only really need to pay attention for 1 day a week).

you only really need to pay attention for 1 day a week).
good point, well taken.
however, with the large number of players to keep track of, the potential for numerous injuries, and not being able to follow recent player career moves, i think i would enjoy it more if i had more time to devote to it.
i forgot to mention my point in the previous post: i have not been able to watch even one inning of any baseball game this season. i have only managed to read the sports pages and standings over the past weekend during a haircut. ( and a very cool Dodger retrospective yesterday on tv ) ~ i miss my free time.

It's just a bad time of year for me. Starting two weeks from today I'll have a new job, I'll still be providing support for my old client on a limited (10-15 hours/week) basis, and come first Monday of November basketball practice begins. I won't be having much time for anything.

Alright, Alex has made it in. We've got 4 teams, so we can play. The first game is on Sept. 5th. So we've got about a month to see if anyone else wants in.

T.O. update: He's denying everything. Says that he only took a few extra pills because the pain in his hand had increased and that whacked him out a bit, so his publicist called 911. The publicist is denying everything in the police report (that she said he was depressed, that she had to remove pills from his mouth). T.O. claims that the 35 pills weren't ingested, rather he had taken them out of the bottle and put them in a drawer.
I don't know. I mean, there's a lot of detail in that police report that just doesn't jive with T.O.'s account. What about the whole "were you trying to harm yourself" bit? What motivation does the PD have to lie about that, especially since the police report is, as one reporter pointed out, a sworn statement.
If he took the four or five Vicodin he admitted too then very likely he had no idea what they were asking him or what his responses meant.
Actually, on this one I have no problem believing T.O. He hurt, he took a pill. Still hurt, took some more. Got loopy. Scared publicist who was able to imagine all kinds of reasons he'd try to kill himself and she calls 911. T.O. is now stoned out of his gourd and isn't a rational participant in the conversation.
Publicist is now doing a poor job by denying what she said rather than admitting to it and saying she jumped to conclusions and was wrong.

Yeah, I guess that's what's standing out to me is mostly her contradictions. The pills in the drawer thing is a little weird, but maybe he's got one of those old man pill-a-day boxes that he filled up.

Son of a...
So, in my other league, where I am dead last, I finished yesterday tied with my opponent, and only player left to play today was my quarterback, Rex Grossman. Going in, he's one of the hottest QBs playing. All I needed him to do was throw for 50 yeards, then take a knee for the rest of the game. What do I get instead? 4 freaking interceptions and a lost fumble. Right now, he's netted me a -8 points.
Right now, even if the bears drive the length of the field, entirely on passing and score a touchdown....I still end up back even. Bastard.
ETA: CRAP! Punt return for a touchdown, Grossman doesn't even get the ball. They're going to win this game without an offensive touchdown.
ETAM: Damnit, Arizona couldn't even make the bloody field goal to give Grossman the chance for a last second desparation drive. Poop.
