View Full Version : Fibreglass care tips?

Okay, this is probably a long shot (I don't think we have any boaters on the board), but does anyone have good tips/favorite products for caring for fibreglass? I need to start doing something to make sure my Dodger seats stay in good condition.

They're in fairly good shape in that they've got no major scratches or dents or anything. But the surface has definitely oxidized, it's got that dull, milky look. I've done some searching and seen some products that claim to take care of that. Are those claims generally to be trusted? Are there brands out there that are better than others? I've seen some products by Meguiars, who I know makes a good car wax, I wonder if the same holds for their fibreglass care stuff.

Have you checked any of the boating sites? From what I understand, you have to remove the oxidation (is that a word?) before you can polish...

How did the Stadium care fot the seats all of these years?

Is ther a Doger Stadium Seat Owners Club out there? God knows there are clubs for everything else!

Yeah, that's where I started. There seem to be products that are supposed to do both in one step. That'd be nice. Meanwhile, it's been surprisingly difficult to locate a retail boating supplise store near work.

GD, West Marine has a pretty good writeup (http://www.westmarine.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/westadvisor/10001/-1/10001/RestoringGelcoatShine.htm). They have stores in Newport Beach, and Long Beach.

I don't know how I know this, but West Marine is supposed to be the best.

there are a number of automotive polymer coat products around. Meguiars products are always pretty top notch (except for that weak "Car Crazy" show he does on speed channel) and readily available at most auto parts places.

they're also liable to be slightly cheaper than things made to protect against salt water oxidation (ie, boating stuff).
