I've heard about things like this. there was a video around for awhile of a guy who hooked a barracuda that launched itself at him and ripped him wide open. he too lived but the fish was like a flying chainsaw as it came towards him.
yeah, I'll stick to bluegill and trout thanks. worst I ever got from those was a hook in my thumb.

I'm disappointed in them. Where's their sportsmanship?
'Once we got Ian up, I cut the fish loose,' said his father. 'My main concern was not the tournament.'

That would hurt soooo bad. And there's salt water involved.

I'd figure the guy probably went into shock, which sort of blocks pain, doesn't it?

Yes. When I cut my knee open (72 stitches) I didn't feel it. I was in shock.

Just now. A freak letter opener accident. :D j/k
When I was 10, I was fishing in a stream and fell to my knees while I was crossing it. My knee broke open a Lowenbrau bottle and the glass cut my knee to the bone. Not to get into too much detail but the cut looked like a mouth dribbling with ketchup and cottage cheese. I saw my bone. Somehow I managed to walk on it... It felt like I banged it really hard. I didn't feel the glass at all.
My biggest worry about the whole thing? It was March 17th (I remember the exact date) and we were going on our first trip to Disneyland on June 21st of that year. I was worried that I wouldn't be able to go to Disneyland because I couldn't walk. THAT was my big worry. Not bleeding out or losing my leg...
 :D

See what happens when 10 year olds drink Lowenbrau ? They should stick to St. Pauli Girl

If only you had known about special assistance passes. You probably would have played the injury up until after the trip.

I know, I was so drunk. I said, "Look at me I'm I Dream of Jeannie! Watch me fit into this bottle."
And, well, you know the rest...

Jeez... all of a sudden cutting myself on a fish at age 13 doesn't seem so novel, does it?
Great... my story's no good and I'm still stuck with the damn scar...

Capt Jack

easily...all too easily in fact.
spines
teeth
flailing about with the hook still in
even some with very sharp and large scales that cut like razors.
