I gave the homeless shelter my letter of resignation this morning. I am vacating my position in two weeks time.

Time to move on.

I did acquire another position at a GLBT legal rights organization here in Boston. I will basically be doing the same thing I am doing here for more money hourly. However, it is a PT position, but I am currently looking for another PT position elsewhere. I am hoping the job will lead to something FT. If not, 2 PT jobs never killed me before...

I enjoy what I do at the shelter, but the environment is a tad bit depressing for me. It's hard for me to separate myself from the hardships of the guests. I also felt that although the shelter does a lot of good, it does seem to enable a lot of people to stay on the street and not help themselves. Also, the lobby has been a haven for drug deals which go unmonitored even after many requests from staff to remedy that.

So, off I go to yet another job. Things sure have changed since my parents' day. They both have had the same jobs their whole lives. Retirement? What's that?

I think this new position will keep me settled until a move is in the works for us. We plan to move to Southern California some day. It could happen very soon, it could happen in a year... We'll see.

Wish me luck.
:)

Could you maybe go into a purely selfish line of work for a real change?

Ah, nevermind. Who am I talking about?

Keep in mind we have many needy people here in Southern California.

Yeah, but maybe he'll move back like he says. I know lots of people here would love for him to.

Ah, nevermind. Who am I talking about?
I thought about going into some for profit job again and becoming rich and turning into this huge corporate monster that occasionally beds David Geffen... but then I thought would I be happy? Most likely not.

It kinda stinks being 35 and not knowing what you want to do when you grow up.
:D

I'm ready to move back. I hate snow. I need to be near cool friends, family and the park.

Ah.... what a life you have.....
my life used to be that every time I answered the phone I said:
"Good afternoon, gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender community services of Colorado, how may I help you?"

Plenty of the young men that worked in that office found that to be a great jumping off point to what are now full fledged careers in various situations.
There's always a reason. you know this.
Use it, work it, make the connections!
Congrats.

It's amazing how two little words ("I" and "quit") can change your mood from crabby to happy in mere seconds.
:D

I'm hoping this is a good move for me. I feel it already.

I thought you were going to say "positions."

Hey GC, come back before the 19th and you & Ism can come see my show!

And then whack each other with your murses.

I should bad mojo you for getting that awful song in my head. But I won't. ;) I'm happy that you knew when to fold 'em. Knew when to walk away, and knew when to run.

Congrats Mr. GC!

I called my new job to see what the dress code was. (I went into the interview with a tie, white shirt and dress pants. The people in the office were totally dressed in formal office wear when I went in.) My supervisor told me, 'Yeah, well that day we were all dressed up because we knew an interviewee was coming in.' I laughed. Then she said, 'As far as dress code goes, we did have problems in the past. So I will say that we don't allow pajamas in the office. One of our assistants used to wear those and well, we thought it wasn't a good idea. So, t-shirt, shorts and sandals are okay.'

"I think I'm gonna like it here!" Sang Little Orphan Annie.

Well, I'm 45 and still don't know what I wanna do when I grow up.

God! Yes! Debating and seeing movies in person! Hey, when you come to the Bay Area, maybe I will have my first dinner and a movie night at my house (we watch a movie on DVD and I make dinner) Maybe we can get the Pods to join us too if they're in town.

Maybe I'll be unpacked an able to receive guests by then ;)

Then let's not grow up then. I think iSm decided that long ago and hasn't aged a bit since.

That sounds like fun!

Unpacking is a long, tiresome thing. And half of the time when I do it, I say 'Why did I pack that? I should have chucked it...'
