Rstar cheats death like CP!

In the spirit (and honor) of Cadaverous Parlor, I too cheated death in a car.


I was on my way to work, going west on the 22 in the right lane. I had just gotten on and was trying to merge left when the right lane came to a complete stop. The off ramp at Beach had backed up onto the freeway. I just about came to a stop about 3 car lengths behind a white VW Jetta, and looked into my rear view mirror. I saw a White Buick Regal approaching at about 55 MPH, and closing in. The driver slammed on his breaks and began fish tailing out of control. I let off my breaks and advance forward to give him more room to stop. If I hadn't, it may have been much worse!

As I got about 1 car length behind the Jetta, he slammed into me at about 40MPH, forcing me into the Jetta. The front of his car is badly crumpled. We all get out briefly; I looked at our cars. The Buick wasn't leaking. I had a tail pipe stuffed with foam from his bumper, and a wrinkled back bumper, and the Jetta just had a scratch. I have duel exhaust, so I felt we could all get out of harms way and get off the freeway. There was no right shoulder, and with all of the construction, it was dangerous for us to be there.

Everyone was ok, just shook up. I'll need a new front bumper, back bumper, and work done on my exaust at the very least. There is some noise comming from the underside.

But the real worry is that I just has C-Spine surgery (2 level bone fusion, on May 22nd) that I'm healing up from, and have been wondering what might happen if I had an accident. Thank God the airbags didn't deploy! That could have sent me back to the hospital. I went to Urgent Care and had Xrays, everything looks good.

BTW, I think my car did pretty well for the inpact it got. I have a 2006 Ford Fusion (got it a week before my bone fusion!).

The driver of the Buick was a 17 year old trying to get the Cal State Long Beach for registration, driving on bald front tires. I feel sorry for him, but he should be more carefull.

A great relief your fusion surgery remained fused and you're okay. Take it easy though, you might be sore tomorrow from the impact and any whiplash! A 40mph hit is a hard one!

I know the exact place you were hit, and almost had the same thing happen to me yesterday. When are they going to be done with all of the construction and exit closures?? I needed to exit on Knott, but the sign said "Closed" so I had to get off one early, Beach. It was so backed up with all of the detouring cars, and you could see many-a-car screech to a sudden hault. Uuugh! When I go to work, Euclid and Brookhurst are always alternating being closed or backed up adding 30 minutes to my drive (yes, just the exit ramp!). Everyday cars on the 22 are threatened by the sudden stops in the right lane. So sorry you were a victim of Our Measure M Dollars At Work. Take care!

They say it is suppose to all be done by November, 2006. So they are suppose to be done in 3 more months, and are suppose to be on time at this point! I think we should have a party when that happends!

Rstar! I am so glad to hear you are doing alright. I hope that you do feel okay tomorrow and that your car is only making a funny noise because the bumpers need to be pulled out or something like that.

Today was a horrible day, I think, for accidents. I heard about a lot of them on the news AND I saw a lot of glass and firetrucks/ambulances all over the place. Also, just on the drive from my sons school to work, I almost got into two accidents. People cutting me off and others stopping and turning {combined with being cut off}.

Why do people think just because you leave some room in front of you it is for them???

Also, I am heading up to Knott's this weekend. So, do you think it will be bad first thing in the morning? Should I find an alternate route? We are staying in Orange. Maybe we should try and check in first and then take the back roads?

It does seem the LoT isn't having a lot of luck traffic wise but I think it also is across the board...I mean the city.

I was driving across the 22 yesterday (going from Tustin for a Dr.'s appointment in Los Alamitos). Shortly after I got on the 22 past the I-5, I heard about a stalled car on the 22 W at Knott. By the time I got there, it had become a three-car injury accident.

It's weird to think back that I did the audio work at the press conference for the groundbreaking on this project a couple of years ago.

Yes, I'd take the back roads. Otherwise, you will be going through the Orange Crush, which is real bad most days. It'll take you 30-45 minutes most likely by side streets.

I'm a little tender today, but not too bad. I think I lucked out, as it could have easily been much worse!
