Is anyone going? Come on -- a hot day, while wearing all black, out in the crowded park -- what's not to love?

We haven't even discussed it. I'm going through a stage where I don't want to attend any "events" at Disneyland. I'm missing Gay Day this year and I have little or no desire to attend Bats Day. I want my post 9/11 empty Disneyland back.
I'll think about it.

I'm going. Though I was disenchanted with both "G' Days last year, I think I like the simplicity of Goth Day better and can enjoy it more with just a slight change in the program.
The day basically consists of two main events. I've always enjoyed the twelve o'clock gathering of Goth Fashion and Hyper Noon Meet. It's never been unpleasant and, come to think of it, has been rather enjoyable each and every time.
The evening Haunted Mansion festival has seemed sorely lacking ... but I think an easy fix is to get there MUCH earlier, enjoy mingling with the Goths at Magnolia Park, and get into the Mansion in the first hundred or so ... before they start diluting the crowd with regular guests.
I realize this means getting our asses out of the Grand Cal earlier, but it can and should be done. It actually sounds like a pleasant day. Noon Meet, Big Group Photo, maybe a single ride. Grand Cal afternoon, lounging, cocktails, lounging. Sunset entry to the Park, schmoosing at Magnolia Park in the Park, a hopefully better than average Haunted Mansion ride, and then maybe some other rides and fireworks.
I haven't been to Disneyland since the 51st ... OMG a month ago ... so this will be a welcome visit. I'm going, and I hope to see a few of you there.

Bah on it being called "Bat's Day." Sorry, but that's so gay. It's GOTH DAY, and that's all there is to it.
I'll grant Gay Day one thing: It says what it is.
People hear "Bats Day," they go - huh? whassat? some baseball game giveaway?
Tell 'em Goth Day, and they get it.
Was "Goth Day" trademarked or something? Why the frell do they officially call it "Bats Day?" WTF?
It's Goth Day.
Get It?

Was "Goth Day" trademarked or something? Why the frell do they officially call it "Bats Day?" WTF?
I believe it's origins come from a club called "Release the Bats" from which the first Bat's Day was born.
"Goth" is a bit pidgeon holey too, and came about well after my own predilection to wear black and listen to bands that have since been branded goth.
innerSpaceman
08-12-2006, 12:09 PM
Maybe its pigeonholey, but I think it's way more descriptive ... even if the description is rather off. My daytime outfit will be far more punk than goth (tho my nighttime gear more classicaly goth). I think the term "Goth" is suitably wide ranging to encompass anything black rock'n'rollish, vampirelike, Byronromanctical, or Shellygothitude.
Originexpained regardless, I don't think Bat's Day is decriptive in any way ... and that's why (aside from officially), I've never heard it called that.
And GC, pishah on my August abstinance pledge ... Goth Day is always an exception.
Black. Hot. Sweat. Mmmmmm.
€uroMeinke
08-12-2006, 12:14 PM
But "Bats" is like a secret code among the "Goths," they get the Bats connection from the club, and the song that was based in - thus it's a way of destinguishing honest-to-goth goths from Posseur Goths like us.
I do like the fashion show of Goth - and it's always grand when the Evil Queen joins us.

08-12-2006, 12:17 PM
Well, THIS posseur has a vinyl import 7" of the original song. :p
innerSpaceman
08-12-2006, 12:26 PM
Well, then I prefer the all-inclusiveness of Gay Day ... where gay posseurs like Ghoulish Delight and NirvanaMan are perfectly welcome.
(though, alas and ironically, the fashion show is far less interesting)

Sounds like a Bat Day at Disneyland is better than a good day at work. ;)
I wonder if I can find any of my old 80's black T-Shirts? The ones I used to get at concerts, wear the next day, and then put away (for decades). They may be lost to mists of moving, marriages, and break-ups. And may be too small??
Also, I wonder if they will be there:

Yeah, clothing too small, temperatures too warm, and more black than you can shake a stick at. :)
My mode-of-transportation is giving me some trouble but I'm hoping to make an appearance up there if I can. It'd be cool to be able to see Zappop, Monorail Man and some of the others up there again.
This year though I have a real reason to dress in black though. "Who Wants To Be A Millionaire-Play It!", the attraction I used to "haunt" over at DCA celebrates its two year closing anniversary that day and the MGM version in Florida will have had its very last performances the previous day. Guess no more chances to try to win the cruise anymore. :(
Anyway, look for me and hope to see some of you there...!

GOTH DaY gOth DAy GOth daY!!!!
Come on, all you swankers ... it's by far the best (non-Lot-initiated) Disneyland fashion day of the season!!!
Perhaps not as fun a dress-up day as Tiki Meets or Pirate Farewells, but a thousand times more dress-up fun than Gay Day. There just aren't that many fun dress-up days in the Disneyland calendar ... and this one has by far the most participants.
Come out and play!

I always feel so much more at home on Goth Day. I blend right in. This year I think I'll go with natural blond braids and hot pink. For just one day, I want to be anti-goth. I wonder if we could get my big bro to dress up. Nah, he'd never pass!

Main meet and fashion show - - noon, the Hub. Followed (usually) by massive group photo at Castle. Then, perhaps a ride. Heheh, lunch and Grand Cal Lounging thru Happy Hour.
Apparently adieu to Not Afraid at that point, but twilight return to the Park, more meet and nightime, even blacker fashion show at Magnolia Park in New Orleans Square, and de riguer goth marathon ride on the Haunted Mansion.
After that? Dunno, are they still having fireworks nightly on summer nights?

there is an exact "count" tallied of how many participants experience the Haunted Mansion attraction together. each group of (can't recall if it is 25 or 50) people have a paper sign to help organizers keep an accurate count.
amazingly, the "LoTters" group has received "700" two years in a row... and has now been dubbed, "the NotAfraid - 700 Club".

innerSpaceman
08-22-2006, 07:34 AM
It was the least hot Goth Day on record. Maybe because it was held a week earlier, or so I'm told.
Still too hot for black. TheatreTech (whose outfit was awesome - where are pics?) said all the heat from his body traveled downward along his rail-thin frame and got trapped in his boots, and he claimed his toes were burning.
Still, we have a way around that. We leave the park right after the 1pm photo and hang out in the Grand Cal and/or Jazz Kitchen all afternoon.
Patented coolness.

Yeah, but he was backlit, and you couldn't see the spectacularness of it. Ooooh, and the color (it was NOT black). He didn't get Norm's copyrighted b&w treatment (which was such a perfect effect for this event), but the incredible details of the outfit were lost in the unfortunate backlighting.
He had one of the coolest outfits of the day ... or of EVER. Certainly someone, somewhere got a better pic.

Oh, and unlike last year, the purity of the stretch room was maintained ... with no ungoth interlopers allowed.
As such, the once-year-ok spielalong was excellent. With great echos of the stretch room speech afterwards ... once at our surprisingly fantastic, last-minute fireworks spot ('natch) and later, quite surprisingly indeed, by our hysterical tram spieler at the wonderful night's conclusion.

I was lucky enough to be there and TT looks even thinner in person (unbelievably). He looked great and I saw ISM and I don't know who else on this board. I was wearing my most baroque red PEZ t-shirt.
I recognized Darkbeer and introduced myself and he introduced me around to some of the Mice Chatters in attendance. Al Lutz was there (his birthday even) and I fell in with a group for lunch after the 1PM Big Picture at Pizza Port, did several rides, etc. Favorite moment: Billy and the Hillbillys having fun with a group of Goth girls in the box next to the stage. Billy: "We're into Goth.... Goth Brooks"
The group meet at the HM was very cool. It was like regulated chaos. The vibe was very much like the old days at concerts, clubs, and parties. See and be-seen. As a civilian, I was able to bypass the Goth line and get into the HM FastPass-style. I don't know what was funnier: the Goths or the tourists wondering what in the world was going on. The elevator ride was incredibly loud and hilarious.
All-in-all, I would say that Bat's Day is awesome!
