Apparently, a judge in Ohio has delayed the sentencing of 2 teenagers to jail for causing a traffic accident which left one man with a broken neck and another with brain damage so that they could play football at school:

Can you believe this? The last thing these guys deserve is to play football. Its rewarding them for doing something terrible

I don't get it. The father of one of the boys says he will not allow his son to play sports as punishment but the Judge is delaying so he can play sports.

As a coach I am amazed that there is not some team conduct policy that would result in their removal from the team. There are always team conduct policies. Doing something that stupid....those kids wouldn't be playing on a team I was coaching.

On a similar, but completely different subject, I read a story in the LA Times the other day about a judge with his priorities straight:
Riverside County Judge Chose Ballgame Over Verdict
August 16, 2006
By Maeve Reston / Times Staff Writer
The state Commission on Judicial Performance publicly admonished Riverside County Superior Court Judge Paul E. Zellerbach on Tuesday for refusing to return from an Angels playoff game to handle a verdict in a murder trial and turning down the attorneys' request to allow another judge to receive the jury's verdict.
